I flipped on Hannity tonight on a commercial break of the program I was watching(Daria, if it matters.) I did not catch the whole discussion, but Hannity was talking to some people about the impending government shutdown threat. He then announced something like "I have an idea. Why don't we just end all foreign aid to get our budget under control? Tell the world, you're on your own." I was stunned, especially since Bush's former press secretary then said she could not get behind that. But for a second I was really impressed with Hannity.

Of course, he then had to add "Well, except for Israel. I'd make an exception for them." But it was still a fairly nice moment. It shows that even the neoconservatives are having to admit we can't be the world's policeman everywhere.

Hush mundane, do not question! Unless you wish to be labeled as an anti-semite!?

Well Egyptian aid is basically for making sure they keep any supplies from entering Gaza. Most of the rest of the aid throughout the middle East and elsewhere is for some nefarious purpose as well, or it's for some strategic military reason like having bases in Bahrain.

So Hannity is just using it because he thinks it makes a good talking point at the time being without seriously advocating it.

We need to hammer the neocons that "aid" to Israel is the forced taxation and redistribution of American wealth to a country with largely socialist policies, and that Israel could easily defend itself if it axes socialism and focuses on one of the few legitimate functions of government: defense.

BTW, Daria (the old MTV animated series) rocks. I wish I had known about it when I was in high school.

It pissed me off too. I think h emainly said it because Bush's press secretary gave him a look. God forbid he should be thought of as one of those "Paulian jew haters!"

I've never understood the Israel example. If I had a gun to my head and had to have one country that we gave aid to, it would probably be South Korea. Unlike Israel, there's a chance they could actuatly be destroyed. Of course, I oppose aid to both, but it always amuses me that Israel, which has proven it can win a war, is seen as this delicate flower we must continue to protect.

You bring up a good point in that I believe what will/has been dividing the GOP is Foreign Policy. I think it will be one issue which will separate the candidates either on the left or right. From what I have seen and heard from other GOP and self labelled right wingers is that there is still this divide about foreign policy. Just look at the remarks McCain is making lately in the news about Lybia. he says well now that we have gone in and done what we did we cant leave a vaccum. So, in his eyes we become committed by default. This is a big problem in the GOP as I see it. I think its because non intervention is seen as either being weak or as protectionist/isolationist which neither is true.

I really do hope you're right man. I'm just pessimistic about the whole political process, especially after this Libyan bullshit.

I think it is already creating change. Just three years ago during the primary, Paul was getting lambasted for suggesting we end aid to Arab/Muslim Dictators. Now it is common to hear conservative pundits call for ending aid to Pakistan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia etc. Ending most foreign aid is better than ending none. I think if we articulate to Conservatives that Ron Paul doesn't support an anti-Israeli policy, rather he supports a pro-America policy that keeps Americans out of foreign entanglements(thus safer and less hated) like the Founders wanted. There is no need to attack Israel, just craft your position as Pro-American and portray your opponents and anti-american if they disagree. Don't say, "how can you fund those evil zionists?", when they advocate funding for Israel. Instead say, "how can you support a policy which indebts future generations and is known to make America more hated and thus less safe?".

LOGO, oddly enough. They also have Reno 911. I'm not sure why they'd carry it, but beggars cannot be choosers.

Was not aware it was on DVD, I'll have to pick it up.

I heard they changed or deleted some of the music b/c of licensing issues. I'm sure it's still worth getting though

Americans can also give money to Israel freely out of their own pocketbooks if they are so concerned about that country's well-being. It just ain't for the US federal gov't to do.

And Genesis 12:3 says nothing about a requirement to give a portion of people's taxes to a different government than the one they belong to. God cannot be bribed.
