The USGS said the quake was 3.7 miles (5.9 kilometers) deep.

The 9.0 was 20 miles deep

shallow quakes cause a lot more damage. This one could cause more damage than the 9.0

The tsunami is predicted to be small thank goodness. I think these people have got enough on their plate. Their pacific plate.

It's not so much height - they get taller on landfall also it depends a lot on how many waves and how much force is behind them.
