Good morning.
If you're in D.C. tonight, join us to watch the new documentary from acclaimed filmmaker Morgan Spurlock --
Pom Wonderful Presents: The Greatest Movie Ever Sold.
It was an official selection at this year's Sundance Film Festival.
The film examines product placement in movies and television.
"The movie documents both the absurdity and pervasiveness of product placement in our daily lives," Spurlock said.
"I saw my role on this film as both a filmmaker and an anthropologist."
The screening will be followed by a conversation with Spurlock, Ralph Nader, and Public Citizen president Robert Weissman.

Anything that has either Nader or Spurlock probably isn't worth watching......anything that has both? Guaranteed to be atrocious. Looking up a bio on Robert Weissman is enough to make me cringe---when I dug further, I found his blog entries on the Huffington Post; he's your atypical "Corporations are evil" left-winger that doesn't think the market is capable of policing itself or that the only way to solve the "healthcare crisis" is to have "medicare for all".
Chance of this movie being decent? I give it about a 1 in 10,000.

I don't think either of them are in the movie - they are just hosting it and will talk after.
It made Sundance, so it's probably decent.
also, Nader and Paul have worked on things in the past - there is common ground.
Then again, I'm not that crazy about corporations, myself. Mainly that corporate person-hood thing and how they have more rights than real people, but less responsibility.

Why do i care about product placement? Spurlock is pretty anti-capitilism and nothing even needs to be said about nader.

Good way for independent filmmakers to get funding for their movies. As with most things though, as it gets bigger, there's more corruption involved.

"Supersize Me" also did well at Sundance...I hardly consider the fact that a film aired there or did well there a seal of approval that it's "ok".

Selling out is the American pastime!!!
In a related note, I strongly recommend the film "Thank You For Smoking."
Insightful and hilarious depiction of an unseemly tobacco lobbyist.

It's kind of interesting if you pay attention. Ever seen a movie or TV program where a can of cola had a "cola" wrap on it so it din't display a brand? Or others, where a particular star was gonzo about twinkies? Yeah - sometimes they hide the logo so they don't get sued, sometimes the companies pay them to have their product in the film.
celebs have taken to doing this on twitter too... random tweets about how they love shopping in a particular place they've never been or love their brand X mattress? It's advertising, or suppression of it.
And yes, it does keep movie production costs down.
