Deep divisions between allied forces currently bombing Libya worsened today as the German military announced it was pulling forces out of NATO over continued disagreement on who will lead the campaign.

A German military spokesman said it was recalling two frigates and AWACS surveillance plane crews from the Mediterranean, after fears they would be drawn into the conflict if NATO takes over control from the U.S.

The infighting comes as a heated meeting of NATO ambassadors yesterday failed to resolve whether the 28-nation alliance should run the operation to enforce a U.N.-mandated no-fly zone, diplomats said.

Yesterday a war of words erupted between the U.S. and Britain after the U.K. government claimed Muammar Gaddafi is a legitimate target for assassination.

But Germany and European allies remain unwilling to have NATO take on a military operation that theoretically has nothing to do with the defence of Europe.

Yeah, us here, too. Too bad our President is such an asshole, and ignores the Constitution. And Obama seems to think he's 'fixing it' if he gets us into it without a Congressional declaration of war, then turns it over to NATO with us expected to lead THAT.

Just come home.

Except Obama. He can stay in Chile or wherever he ran to so he wouldn't have to face the music.

Point of clarification. Is Germany pulling out of this particular NATO operation, or out of NATO completely? If the latter then....

All NATO was ever intended to be was a response to the Soviet Union. Seems it is getting declared redundant at last, at least to some degree.

Completely unprecedented.

Just stop and say it to yourself and let it sink in: Three wars at once.

Damnation.

You know, Europe could have handled this thing all by themselves. They could have. Handily.

The cracks are showing in our empire's influence. However Germany's position to sit this one out was predictable, they like all the money and business our bases bring in. However, when the money dries up you'll see that shit change overnight. I love watching this mess circle the drain.

My bad. And to think I've accused them of fearmongering in the past.

We have always been at war with Eurasia. We will always be at war with Eurasia.

Perhaps but we are not at war with Libya (http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0311/51767.html). And Neither is France. (http://www.france24.com/en/20110322-france-not-war-libya-fillon-prime-minister-gaddafi-military-intervention-un-resolution)

Pulling out of NATO completely would require changing the German constitution, so I think something got lost in translation.

Four if you count the USG's drones in Pakistan. Been there since 2004 (didn't become very significant until ~2008) & killed ~2k.

watched fox news last night for bout 5min.. was interesting to see the poll 87% something saying obama should have gone to the congress for authorization.. from a fox audience no less. hannity then said this intervention could "backfire".. if ron paul didn't drive this debate, i'm not sure who did.

Btw the guest speaker they had on to defend the war was a democrat.. roflmao.. pathetic liberal party.. hannity, a republican guest, and tucker carlson were on there against this intervention, or expressing doubts at least. this time, a democrat supports it. the type of "allies" we so desperately to kiss up to as many try to drive out the tea parties cus they piss off the liberals.. kiss up to the spineless populist liberals like jon stewart, i suppose.

Amazing how we treat our 'allies', isn't it.
