According to a White House readout of a Monday night call between Obama and Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the two leaders "underscored their shared commitment to the goal of helping provide the Libyan people an opportunity to transform their country, by installing a democratic system that respects the people’s will." http://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/151191-white-house-suggests-regime-change-is-goal-of-libya-mission?page=1

Tensions with Britain as Gates rebukes UK government over suggestion Gaddafi could be assassinated
No-fly zone called into question after first wave of strikes 'neutralises' Libyan military machine
Italy to 'take back control' of bases used by allies unless NATO leadership put in charge of the mission
NATO baulks at taking over operation with Turkey and European countries unwilling

He's rearranging things in Libya alright. Bombs tend to do that.

"installing a democratic system that respects the people’s will"

Nevermind respecting that of the American people's will! Or that of the People's Congressional Representatives!

This is what happens when we allow politicians to run the government. They play politics when they should be doing what they were elected to do.

Does anybody else get so frustrated and depressed about this. It's like all the effort into the anti-war movement has been for nothing.

Maybe most of the "anti-war" movement is a sham.

The mission has changed three times in three days... I imagine that next week our mission will include:

"Providing and ensuring that Libyans, being a desert people, have ample opportunities to recreate in water parks and escape the harsh sun of the Sahara"

Utah Legislature: America is a Republic, not a Democracy! (http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/home/51390319-76/bill-compound-constitutional-curriculum.html.csp)

Salt Lake City Tribune

A bill that would ensure Utah students learn the U.S. is a compound constitutional republic — not a democracy — has passed both Houses of the Legislature and is now headed to the governor for his signature.

The American Form of Government: Constitutional Republic

The Founding Fathers on Democracy:

"Remember, democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet that did not commit suicide."
- John Adams

Democracy is the most vile form of government
- James Madison

"The experience of all former ages had shown that of all human governments, democracy was the most unstable, fluctuating and short-lived."
- John Quincy Adams

"Democracies have ever been spectacles of turbulence and contention; have ever been found incompatible with personal security or the rights of property; and have, in general, been as short in their lives as they have been violent in their deaths."
- James Madison

Who says they have a choice? America U.N. delivers freedom packages, at its discretion. :)

On another note, seems the mission parameters might not be quite set in stone...

the U.S. military warned Tuesday it was "considering all options" in response to dire conditions

I was thinking boots on the ground comes next year, but they are really determined to deliver freedom.

A little bit of research shows the phrase "considering all options" usually indicates an expansion of the particular military operation in question and this is the key phrase to prepping civilians(the taxpayers) to accept (fund) our expanding involvement. I am sick of tax dollars being used to destroy other peoples under the pretext of improving their condition. This is why tyrants(Obama) should not hold purse strings esp. those of an "unlimited" printable nature!!!!!!!

I'm certain we can do that in "days, not weeks".

From the onset of the strikes against Libya, senior administration officials have said the goal is to create an atmosphere where Libyan rebels would be able to oust Gadhafi from power.

Stuff like this used to be done in secret. Now our government openly admits it.
