Not sure whether it was the rebels or another country who brought it down.

I can't decide if it was poor piloting or just plain bad luck to get shot down in a fighter jet by manually aimed gunfire.

I think the rebels do have some anti-aircraft guns, looks like they got lucky. When the plane came down no UN forces had entered the country yet.

Conflicting reports on which "side" was operating that plane. When I first saw it reported it was a "rebel" jet... AP is reporting it was Libyan and rebels shot it down

There are conflicting reports of whos plane it was (libyan govt / rebel) and who shot it down.
Some mainstream media was saying that it was rebel piloting that plane.

According to Al Jazeera it's a rebel piloted plane.

"Mustafa Abdul Jalil, the head of the Libyan Interim Council, tells Al Jazeera that residential areas in Benghazi are under attack by artillery and tanks. He also said that the plane shot down belongs to the rebels. "

The pilot ejected too late for the parachute to deploy.

Well that sucks. I wonder if he was shot down on accident or if it was pilot error. Anyway, I imagine the rebels are going to stay out of the sky following this afternoon.

That was some pretty impressive camera work for an amateur. He kept it right in focus the whole way down.

Didn't realize that the rebels had fighter jets, I'll have to follow this a bit more closely.

Large parts of the military broke away to join the rebels fairly early on. I could have sworn it would've been over within a few weeks then.

Wikipedia for what it's worth:

On 15 March 2011, a rebel website reported that opposition forces started using a captured MiG-23 and a helicopter to sink 2 loyalist ships and bombing some tank positions.[25]

Of course, the Libyan Air Force uses them as well. This is a MiG-23:

Many pilots defected from Gaddafi, I imagine a few took their planes with them.

I don't think it's as dire as ImmortalT was saying. She mentioned Iran alongside Bahrain and Yemen as countries that are using violence against their people, and should not be tolerated by the international community. Relatively mild stuff compared to a lot of what we've heard the past five years.

Makes sense. Too bad we don't have Iyad El-Baghdadi here anymore, he gave some great updates.

Yeah. Hopefully he'll come back at some point.

Just follow him on Twitter (http://twitter.com/#!/iyad_elbaghdadi). He tweets constantly. He's way too busy to be posting here right now.
