The Japanese have been banning American beef for years for protectionism under the guise of mad cow phobia.

Yeah, I don't necessarily agree with the thumbs down on this thread. It's a fairly reasonable thing to do. As time goes on and the food produced in Japan is proven safe, I'm sure Italy would drop the ban.
