Haley Barbour:

"Anybody who says you can't save money at the Pentagon has never been to the Pentagon," the Mississippi governor said. "We can save money on defense and if we Republicans don't propose saving money on defense, we'll have no credibility on anything else."

"What is our mission?" Barbour said. "How many Al Qaeda are in Afghanistan. ... Is that a 100,000-man Army mission?"

"I don't think our mission should be to think we're going to make Afghanistan an Ireland or an Italy" or a Western-style democracy, he said.

Tim Pawlenty:

"I don't think we should be talking about cutting the Pentagon's budget," the former Minnesota governor told POLITICO after a speech at the Aiken Republican Club here. "I think we should be talking about looking for those areas where we might some efficiencies or redeploying money spent on defense to higher-priority areas within defense. In other words keep the defense budget intact, but if we find some savings, some efficiencies, some ways to redeploy money we should do that."

Barbour and Trump both sound good on foreign policy issues. I hope they both decide to run and add non interventionist views to the debates.

The bureaucracy extends into all areas of government....including the military. There is a whole maze of organizations and agencies attached to the military. The armed forces themselves are not as bad(though its there too) but the supporting organizations is where the real growth has occurred.

So did George W. Bush in 2000 and Obama in 2008.

Hey Barbour sounds ok, we have to look at cutting the ENTIRE government or else there will never be anything cut. Eventually cuts will come whether they are forced or voluntary however.

Unfortunately, the GOP candidates with the best chance to win right now are the neo-cons. I thought Huckabee was starting to come around with his criticism of the war in Afghanistan, but he basically wants to withdraw from Afghanistan and start a war in Libya.

In that case I might really be starting to like Haley Barbour.

This video could be used as a promo for what you will see during the 2012 GOP debate. Who has the biggest unit?

Most likely 2012 scenario: Neocon wins GOP nomination. Loses against Obama.

Most GOP voters, even if they know that these wars are disastrous, don't want to admit it because it will take them away from the "normal" and that makes them uncomfortable. What we need to do is make non-interventionist views appear closer to the "normal".

That is why we should encourage more people with non-interventionist views to run for the GOP nomination. That is why Haley, the Donald, Johnson and Ron should all run for POTUS.

It will normalize the non-interventionist policy among the GOP voters. This will set up 2016 for Rand perfectly.

I think Kristol has it right here:

But Barbour is a shrewd political operative, and if he's saying this, he's seeing an opening for a defense-cutting, Afghanistan-skeptic candidate in 2012.
He's not saying it because he's an actual conservative with any principles, but because he sees the country turning against the Afghanistan war and senses a political opportunity.

I thought Johnson was for the Bush-doctrine. Not sure, but pretty confident he is an interventionist.

if voters continue to focus on what candidates say, rather on what they do, it is bad news for Ron Paul.

Keep a note of those users/voter, cos I assure you that they would be the same users expressing support for Pawlenty, Jeb Bush, Gingrich, Palin or XXX establishment presidential candidate in the next thread on non-Ron Paul presidential candidate news. Its like they are softening us up to vote for x establishment politician once Ron is out of the race. We cant all stay home and allow another useless republican to lose to Obama. Oh no, that wont be good for the republican establishment

Pawlenty supported cap and trade, climate change, and global warming initiatives:
