So they are raising taxes, raising salaries of public employees in the midst of a recession and high foreclosure rate........AND this http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/6881/smalldouche.gif is still backing these taxpayers building a $600 stadium?

Do you know that he tried to block the recall effort with a lawsuit? He was desperately trying to hold onto his fiefdom.

Over the next two weeks, we'll see if Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Alvarez can muster the support that propelled him to office in 2004 and 2008, and also gave him more power. Earlier today, Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Barbara Areces dismissed Alvarez's last-minute lawsuit seeking to block the recall vote set for March 15. She ruled the voter petitions seeking his recall were collected and reviewed in compliance with the law. That means Alvarez must now concentrate on repelling voters' wrath, which is spearheaded by car dealership billionare Norman Braman.

The auto magnate has already spent a half-million dollars to oust Alvarez, who to stay in power is relying on the support of the county employee unions, his top bureaucratic lieutenants, and a former state senator known for running dirty political campaigns. Alvarez -- along with county Commissioner Natacha Seijas, who is also facing a recall -- has hired Alex Diaz de la Portilla to work on his campaign.

Sadly, on election day the unions all go vote for their mayor, councilors etc. In my town the schools close and virtually every public employee votes the same way as the masses of asses either are disinterested or working. They have an effective voting block unless the public goes which they never do unless there is a crisis, by then its too late and recall is the only answer. VOTE for the opposite of the unions, when you see them holding signs all over for one candidate vote the opposite. They are an effective vocal minority and have plenty of signholders etc to make it look like their pick is the favorite and noone else can win. The towns and cities should cap spending and borrowing automatically tied to a formula of tax receipts and relieve the unions of their power.
