LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Pilots on an Alaska Airlines flight locked down the cockpit and alerted authorities after three passengers conducted an elaborate orthodox Jewish prayer ritual during their Los Angeles-bound flight.

Airline spokeswoman Bobbie Egan says the crew of Flight 241 from Mexico City became alarmed Sunday after the men began the ritual, which involves tying leather straps and small wooden boxes to the body.

FBI and customs agents, along with police and fire crews, met the plane at the gate at Los Angeles International Airport.

Airport police say two or three men were escorted off the plane, questioned by the FBI, and released. No arrests were made.

Why the fuck were they doing an elaborate prayer ritual thousands of feet in a confined space?

Am all for religious tolerance but could these people at least notify the flight attendants before starting such ritual. Talk about inconsiderate and insensitive idiots.

Because they were thousands of feet in the air and in a confined space?

If this was just a matter of them putting on a prayer shawl and the prayer box on their head, this is total overreaction. If they were praying loudly and walking up and down the aisles, I would understand this.

I'm waiting for the day someone gets kicked off a flight for praying a rosary.

next time some protestants start praying before they eat their airplane food I'm going to alert the flight attendant.

Pretty understandable reaction. A group of guys partaking in a rather strange looking ritual on an airplane is going to raise flags for some people. It is what it is.

Haha the reaction of RPF is pretty funny though. If this were Muslims it would be an example of Islamophobia.
