Ok I've been hearing that Ron Paul is supporting the Defense of Marriage Act but I haven't seen any evidence of this one way or the other. Does anyone have any links or anything where I could find some info on this. I really hope this isn't true

It's unfortunately true. Do I what I do - hold your nose and ignore it, and when someone asks about it, say something like "yeah, it sucks, but nobody's perfect".

You can also spin it a little, saying that Ron wants to eliminate all state-sponsored marriage benefits, and this accomplishes a small part of that.

It really sucks because I was just convincing my Lesbian aunt that RP supported gay rights more than democrats. I guess when you think a man is as principled as Jesus you're setting yourself up for a couple let downs. Do you have a link or something where I can read his defense to the vote?

Like it or not, similar to abortion, RP is consistent on this issue. Here his position is not for or against DOMA, but that the Fed cannot direct or restrict the State on this matter. Reading his positions, he is actually against government being involved in marriage all together. Marriage is a contract between two individual parties.

Ron doesn't support gay rights. Gay rights don't exist. People don't have rights because they are gay or part of any group.

Exactly. And Ron's statement here:

discusses how his motivation for his actions is based on constitutional authority.

Dr Paul answered the "marriage" question on the FOX debate tonight.

If he ever comes out and wants to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act, then I'm through. I'm a paleo-conservative (Pat Bucananite) who already has major problems with his stand on drug legalization, his sudden soft stance on immigration, and his recent 180 turn on Don't Ask, Don't Tell. You can't win without the paleo-cons, so please stop pissing us off.

Hopefully he does change his mind and try to repeal it. It's ridiculous for someone to care whether or not two people call themselves married. It's not hurting anyone. People shouldn't be trying to enforce their morals on others.

What happened with immigration? This might be a concern.

I think Ron Paul wanted to give the states the choice to legalize gay marriage or not in their region

There's a thread about it somewhere. Don't worry. He's not for amnesty, or anything like that. He wants to strike the root, or we will never resolve this problem. If I can find the thread, I'll send it to you in a PM.

He attacked the Arizona law last year and is certainly no Tom Tancredo on immigration. Sounds like he is becoming open to amnesty. We need someone who wants to reduce all immigration, legal or not.
