Now there will be no chance for more nuclear power plants to be built in the USA. The irrational liberals will fight to the death if any are started.

Just build them on the solid bedrock of the central USA.

Most liberals I speak with seem to prefer nuclear over coal.

Energy will be a major issue this next election, we will see if Democrats continue to oppose nuclear power, especially after this event. The last nuke plant in the USA was finished in 1996. I remember "no-nuke" protests in the 80's, people chaining themselves to things. Three mile island and Chernobyl freaked people out, now this.

That was under Bush. Obama and the Progressives are pro-Nuclear power as well as the neocons.

I see the media across the board has been given their marching orders. The coverage I watched both on Foxnews and MSNBC had their pro-nuclear propogandists on that basically said only a handful of people got sick from Chernobyl and simply taking KI prevents cancer.

I bet they prefer windmills and "green energy" over nuclear.

Why the disdain for windmills? Windmills cannot and will not ever power our civilization on a mass scale level, but on a residential level, such technologies are a really sustainable and logical way of ensuring BASIC energy needs are met. Solar to an even greater degree.

Where's the funny? I'm not seeing it.

Remember that 99% of the information is coming from the Japanese government. They have a vested interest in underestimating and being optimistic of what is actually happening. Remember to use logic before you try to call bullshit.

Of course, this isn't something they can properly cover up. If the plant went up in a boom and Japan is shortly going to turn into a radioactive wasteland, they can't hide it. But then, that probably didn't happen.

1 reactor is close to meldown, 2 or 3 others are getting out of control and some people still make the "ohhh look at me im so unpc, so against this green-stuff, so macho, so wild, so free...i smoke 3 packs-a-day, f*ck this, f*ck that, im-a-real-man" act?!?

Meltdown =/= disaster

For things to be really bad, the containment has to be breached.

Thats right but if they were having trouble cooling the damn thing imagine now after the explosion. The whole interior must be melting like butter by now.

The MSM will never report the truth. Even if there are mass radiation casualties or long term illnesses the MSM will not report it. Both parties are pro-nuclear and control the media. Anything negative about nuclear power does not fit well with their agenda. Therefore the media will downplay it and spend most time reporting the resiliance of the Japanese people, the feel good stories of Americans (and American politicians) helping and rescuing and usage social media sites.

It would spread across the internet like wildfire, especially seeing as how this is taking place in Japan. The MSM wouldn't get away with it.

Since when are both parties pro-nuclear? The US hasn't built a new nuclear power plant since 1997. Don't be silly.

The reactor itself won't explode. There was an explosion at Chernobyl because of the graphite coolant. Mind, various components might explode, but the reactor itself won't. Like I said, the problem is if the containment was already breached (and it looks like it was).

Just build them on the solid bedrock of the central USA.

There was an earthquake centered near Oklahoma City just yesterday. Of course, they've never measured one over 5.5 here, but don't assume all of flyover country is prone to hold perfectly still.

For some reason most of the US populace does not put any credibility in news from the internet unless it from a MSM source.

Things change. The Progressives/Socialists that have taken the Democratic party and hold the White House are pro-nuclear. The neocons are pro-nuclear.

President Obama's $8 billion loan guarantee will give the US its first nuclear power plant in three decades. But economic hurdles are high. ...

You do not need an explosion to contaminate the environment and populace.

It will be a case of NIMBYs that will prevent new nuclear plants (Not In My Back Yard).

Point of technical clarity.

Graphite was not the coolant at the Chernobyl plant, it was the "moderator", or the absorbent of excess neutrons.

Cooling was provided by water in a boiling water reactor loop.

Not to suggest the American MSM is sensationalist or prone not to let accuracy get in the way of grabbing your attention...
