I had a conversation with a guy at work tonight. He asked me if I thought that the government should provide any safety nets. I asked him if he believe in the rule of law. He said yes. I asked him if he believed in our rule of law. He said yes. I asked him if he believed in following the constitution. He said yes. I later asked him if he thought there was anything that the federal government couldn't regulate. He said no.
Besides the fact that he didn't think there wasn't anything the federal government couldn't touch I think this conversation shows a good way we can persuade some people. I think if we use the rule of law argument we can win some people to our camp. We don't have to talk about safety nets because those are kind of polarizing.
We should use the constitution as our starting point. If they believe in the rule of law and believe what the constitution says then they "should" agree with us. What do you think?
