View Full Version : Get local media attention

It's easy to do really. The media just cares about ratings so you need to think about something everyone would be interested in watching. A Ron Paul supporter waving a sign? No. Standing on the side of a busy road in costumes acting out a play and holding up signs? Possibly. I think that addressing a specific issue in a play like that might be more effective. It has to be something crazy, different, or interesting. ex: a meetup group marching with signs might not get media attention. A meetup group marching naked with Ron Paul signs covering them would. That's an extreme example but better than nothing.

Would you rather affect 10 people or 10,000? WE MUST GET MEDIA ATTENTION!

Excellent idea. Let local broadcast news know of your events as well!

Yes, telling them ahead of time is a must.

But is there a way to get media attention without reinforcing the stereotype that Ron Paulians are eccentric kooks? I loved the media attention that the Spam food drive got. Anybody got any ideas along those lines?

Local media is a lot more supportive. Even if they spin it negatively I still think it's better than no media attention. At my college almost no one knows who Ron Paul is. It's amazing that people who support a football team wearing body paint aren't portrayed as kooks but people who back a political candidate are.

I dunno, the whole standing naked may not be good for trying to persuade conservatives. I see your point, though.

Look at the media that the Nashville rally garnered. It was serious, straightforward reporting.

If you're writing a press release about a local event (that's NOT an official campaign event), go to PRWeb's help center to learn how to write a professional press release. (Leave the PR for official campaign events to the campaign.)

The media respects professionalism. That'll get you a lot further than flowers.

Also when writing a Press Release, newspapers do not like to edit or rewrite what you've written. Make sure your first sentence and title is straight to the point so your PR will be selected. Remember, the topic has to be something that a reporter would find newsworthy- and that people would like to hear about.

If you're going to make fliers for people at a football game make sure to have a football theme to it. Have a roster on the front or something else related. On the back have information about Ron Paul. There are other creative things like that you can do but I won't go into detail.

So throwing on my Chewbacca costume and putting on a "Ron Paul for Prez 08" sandwich board is a good or bad idea? ;)

My hubby is finishing a cartoon featuring George Washington & Ron Paul with actual quotes. Will be accompanying a letter to the editor. I'd also like to post it on more than just my myspace page. Anyone know of where I can put the cartoon where it'll get more attention?

Send it to surrounding cities and possibly to people like Jay Leno.

Well, bumping 30 times won't get people to listen. Come up with a bunch of creative ideas, post those, get views on the merit of the thread's content, the end.
