The Armor school at Fort Knox is being shut down and integrated with the Infantry School at Fort Benning. The new combined Arms "Maneuver School" will be located at Fort Benning and will be the training ground for both the Armor and Infantry branches of the Army.

As such, all the Armor equipment at Knox has to be moved to Benning.

The move is supposed to accomplish two things.
1: Save money by centrally locating two training facilities with many overlapping training needs
2: Integrate the Armor/Cav and Infantry personnel into one cohesive unit instead of two groups that constantly vie for recognition.

Fort Knox being in KY doesn't explain the eastward movement through Texas.
