Listening to Jesse Jackson Jr. reminds me of this: - Deliberate Dumbing Down of America

Oh my god he is so fucking clueless when it comes to economics. And how is giving kids free crap going to make them more productive members of society? Wow.

This ranks up there with Alvin Greene's idea of people making action figures of him as a way to stimulate the economy and put people back to work.

At first blush the iPod thing sounds fantastically pants-on-head retarded. However, upon further thought and reflection from my paranoid-ass mind, it's nothing short of brilliant (in an evil way). Jesse Jackson Jr. isn't a stupid man at all, he's a pure Machiavellian genius. By giving away ipods to young and impressionable kids, they will create an entire generation of young Statists who see government as a Santa Claus like entity ("Sure he watches us 24/7 to make sure we're not naughty but he also gives us free stuff so we love him"). Libertarians who oppose this will be seen as the mean old Grinch. Also, since they had to amend the constitution to do it, the kids will grow up thinking the constitution should be changed whenever governments feel like it. Now, I don't see any way in hell something like that would happen, but if it does it would be one of the most effective long term power grabs of all time.

Man why arent we doing this?

We can fix everything.

Hell I got an even better idea.. Amend the constitution to make everybody have the right to be a millionaire and then we'll all be so rich that nobody will have to work anymore!!!

BRILLIANT!

He didn't directly say that the constitution should be amended to include something about kids getting iPods and laptops; it sounded like an example of new rights he thinks should be added.

Pretty stupid, but still.

Actually, it's covered under the "Commerce Clause." (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interstate_Commerce_Clause) :D

Actually, it's covered under the "Commerce Clause." (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interstate_Commerce_Clause) :DNOPE! It's the Necessary and Proper Clause (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Necessary_and_Proper_Clause): "The Congress shall have Power - To make all Laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into Execution the foregoing Powers, and all other Powers vested by this Constitution in the Government of the United States, or in any Department or Officer thereof."

iPods are clearly in pursuit of National Defense since... iPods will lead to more educated children, who will become more productive members in our society, and ultimately lead to a better military and equipment. :D
