A twist on an old classic.

Baja Arizona (secession) (http://the-classic-liberal.com/baja-arizona-secession/)

The residents of Pima County, Arizona, have declared they want out! (sort of.)

Good. I say, let them go in peace.

Arizona Citizens Threaten Secession, Blame Extreme Conservatives (http://www.deathandtaxesmag.com/55911/arizona-citizens-threaten-secession-blame-extreme-conservatives/)

[...] Pima County Secession

So what is different about the nascent Pima Country secession movement? To be brief, they find the rest of the Arizona state government, led by Jan Brewer, to be far too radically conservative for their tastes—owing to the recent state immigration and healthcare policies. But, that isn’t all: the Pima secessionists actually want to be part of the federal government. They aren’t interested in fully seceding from the Union and existing as a buffer region between Mexico and northern Arizona.

It is important to understand that the secessionist gesture was, according to by Sen. Paula Aboud, D-Tucson, who advanced the amendment, “tongue-in-cheek.” In an interview with the The Arizona Republic, Aboud went on to say, “We don’t want to be part of a state that continues to embarrass Arizona.”

Secession is a subject that deserves more serious contemplation in America. In a country with over 300 million people, it only makes sense that there's a broad range of accepted political theories and opinion about the role of government in society. The problem we have is that, some of these ideas are so incompatible with each other there is no possible way for the People to reach a compromise.

Yes, compromise can be found between some groups, but there simply isn't a way for those who prefer self-governance to compromise with others who desire the (perceived) warm blanket of institutionalized "safety" and "security." Why? Because of the gun in the room, that's why.

To those of you who feel the need to "govern" others, those who wish to live by the sweat of another's brow, and the rest of you who simply get a thrill from power ... Go in peace, be on your way, let the rest of us get on with our lives. Or let it be us who leaves, also in peace, and we'll go ASAP. For we want nothing from you but to be left alone, and will likewise provide you the same.

If you love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home and leave us in peace. We seek not your council, nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you; and may posterity forget that ye were our country men. -- Sam Adams, Philadelphia State House, August 1, 1776

There is a movement in Pima County, Arizona to create a new state, Baja Arizona, to reflect the political spirit of the southern part of the state, but Article IV, Section 3 of the Constitution specifies the procedure required for one part of a state to secede from the other, namely, not without the consent of Congress and the state legislature.
