A sense of the senate balanced budget resolution offered by Senators Pat Toomey and Mike Lee fell two votes short of passage, and since the Constitution already placed limits on Congressional spending, were these limits adhered to then there would be no need to further amend the Constitution.

The vote was 58-40, two votes short of the 60 required to pass such a measure.
