Tomorrow Congress will be back from its break. Do you think there is any chance that they won't reach an agreement on raising the debt ceiling and the government shuts down within the next couple weeks?

Like the cake, the shutdown is a lie.

Hopefully. And not a moment too soon.

The Budget isn't what would cause the shutdown, not passing a debt ceiling increase would. This budget is for the next fiscal year anyway, as they always are, so they have all the time in the world if they want to stall it out. The debt ceiling will pass, however, so no need to worry.

Corrected. I guess they are using the debt ceiling as leverage.

If the Government did shutdown, you will still pay taxes.

Just sayin'

I wonder if there will be a backlash if the Republicans cave and don't get any serious cuts.

Odds are, nobody will care. The Republicans can spin it that they would have had to cut Social Security or Medicare or something like that. Keep in mind 325-350 of the House seats are "safe" seats, it's only those who are vulnerable who have to care about the will of the people. With the Senate it's even worse.

Just reinforces the importance of controlling military and entitlement spending. I'm sure we will hear the lies that SS checks and military checks won't go out if they don't act.

We could only be so lucky as to have a gov't shutdown. I wish it would last for a year or two. Welfare recipients will still get thier checks and we will still wage war.

I bet they make a comprimise at the last hour.

I doubt it.. but if it did. The only immediate effect I can see would be the media pretending it's an apocalypse
