Contract from America Launches Innovative Tea Party Straw Poll Platform
Partners with American Majority and The Liberty Lab to Launch the 2012 Tea Party Straw Poll.
1.4 Million Votes Already Cast.
Representative Paul Ryan Leads.
HOUSTON, TEXAS - The Contract from America Foundation, in partnership with American Majority, today launches the 2012 Tea Party Straw Poll at www.myteaparty.org/results. Nearly 1.4 million preference votes have already been cast, which gauges support using a unique “run-off” matchup methodology. The methodology is designed to elicit deeper preferences from voters and make it much more difficult for well-organized campaigns to “game” the system; a common practice in our hyper-competitive political arena. The results reflect the percentage of times a candidate was preferred in a head-to-head “run-off” against other potential candidates.
With nearly 1.4 million votes, the current top five vote-getters are:
1. Paul Ryan: 78%
2. Chris Christie: 77%
3. Jim DeMint: 73%
4. Michelle Bachmann: 70%
5. Tim Pawlenty: 67%
Ryan Hecker (@RyanHecker), the creator of the Contract from America, and one of the organizers of the 2012 Tea Party Straw Poll, elaborated: “The 2012 Tea Party Straw Poll is unlike any other poll, as it reveals the deeper presidential preferences of tea partiers around the country. Every Republican candidate in the 2012 election cycle is going to try to claim they have the support of the tea party movement. This poll shows where the tea party movement truly stands.”
Scott Graves (@ScottWGraves), organizer of the Contract from America and developer of the innovative online polling system, further notes: “We expect there will be many straw polls, surveys, and focus groups between now and November 2012. Our goal is to use the power of crowd sourcing and social media to help identify how and where to direct precious resources.”
Over the next year, the 2012 Tea Party Straw Poll will be regularly updated to reflect changing preferences, and should serve as an important election tool for the media and campaigns in determining tea party support throughout the 2012 election cycle.
