View Full Version : Mike Huckabee Is Huckabee running for President?

Howard Fineman is opining (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/02/21/the-hesitations-of-huckabee_n_826174.html) that it doesn’t look like former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee will run in 2012.

Sure he will just like Palin will. I mean do you think these two are just going leave all that name recognition and media hypo go to waste? Never in a million years!

Actually what I'm going to do is I'm going to bookmark this thread and bump it when they officially announce.

I'd be shocked if he didn't run. Also remember the "after politics" career; he has to run.

I thought the same thing. But the suggestion that they are running might be what causes their media hype to happen. Trump is a prime example. He can't get elected, he knows it. But getting labeled a possible candidate gets his name in the paper and increases his networth and PR capital.

This article seems to maybe indicate otherwise.

A contact on the ground in Iowa said the following when I asked them about it:
"No, I don't believe he has any form of staff in Iowa (unlike the likes of Cain and Pawlenty). However, he did add additional stops in Iowa for his book tour; the tour increased to six stops on Feb 27 and Feb 28."

I'm thinking he's going to have to. The MSM needs a challenger to RP in 2012. So far they have Pawlenty, Gingrich and maybe Palin - am I leaving anyone out? I'm pretty sure the selection of either Gingrich or Palin will cause the GOP to implode - which would be a nice side effect, but I actually have somewhat higher hopes this time of RP getting the nomination in 2012 (also, I'm planning to donate money to this cause as soon as I can!). I don't know much about Pawlenty, but I'm guessing he's pretty much a vanilla moderate?

Man, I really need to do some more research on today's politics instead of obsessively reading Rothbard. :D

I'm not his biggest fan, but I'm wondering why folks reserve a special hatred for the Huck. Is he worse than Palin or Romney?

He isn't worse than Palin/Romney, but he is still a pro-war nut like them. I don't know if he is a corporate hack or not, but most probably is.

Lots of the folks on the Republican side were/are pro-war. Is Huckabee the kind of guy who would have taken us into Iraq in the first place seems to be a better question.

I'm sure he is weighing his options. I heard he is making a decent amount of money with fox, and he also has a large mortgage to pay. These would suggest he is not running. He also didn't make a showing at CPAC.

On the other hand, he has been visiting Israel and some other early states as well.

Not to mention he was media-made. Huckabee was a no-name until the media decided it wanted to prop him up as some supposed dark horse--which only ended up happening because there were stories about him every day in the news papers and on television. He used religion as a campaign tactic. Then he started stealing Paul's talking points verbatim. That's what really got me going.

Plus he's a run-of-the-mill, egotistical, lying politician.

I remember that moment. I can't agree with him but he does have valid points, particularly his analogy at the beginning. I'll give him credit for recognizing it was more than likely a mistake going in, which is far more than I can say for Palin.

Exactly what I've been thinking. He is getting paid to have a TV show that promotes himself to the public. This works out great for him. He gets money while more or less campaigning on FOX news. How can he lose out with a deal like that?

I get the feeling, FOX started his show expressly for the purpose of exposing him to the public for his 2012 run.

What about Palin?

I would have to think both situations are the same. Both of them needed the spotlight to build exposure and it seems to have worked in the past. I'm not saying it worked in the same way with a sponsoring cable network, but perhaps with Hollywood movie exposure. I can think of a few politicians who were first movie stars. After a few of those got into federal/state government, I began to think being elected to a government position is pretty much a popularity contest.

There's blood on his hands. Plus he's got some reservations for Israel it seems.

Though, I don't think Huckabee nor Palin are running. Palin hasn't been doing so well in the polls, and she's been criticized a lot for the AZ shooting and 'WTF' moments... plus that new memoir. I think Huck likes his several million dollar gig at Fox too much.

I am thinking they will go with someone who seems like a new, fresh, and exciting face that they can construct a patriotic faux libertarian image around. Somebody without as much on the record neocon statist baggage. The GOP has got themselves into a difficult situation. Ron can take them down with a 3rd party run and they know it, handing the White House to Obama for a second term. They have to play ball.

Now, Maurice Clemmons was given a 108 year sentence for a robbery he committed at age 16. Even I think that's harsh. If anything, I think Huckabee was reasonable on commuting the sentence to 47 years. I'm not a legal scholar but I think the original sentence was cruel and unusual.

Huckabee is on Hanity now. He is promoting his new book and both are them are tying to say the main issue in this election is a "Social" issue. He is talking god, he is talking family, the main issue is Financial and Huck has no ammo for it so he needs to change the main issue to something that suites his campaign.

Thanks, Matt. I like the way you put it all right there together. I've been thinking we need a sticky on each of the candidates that gives a quick review with talking points for people like me who need to be quick on our feet to share reason not to vote for the other candidates but don't have the background on these candidates because be haven't been following politics as long as most on this forum. Bits of information that may not be common knowledge to the masses. Now how about one for Romney, Cain, Palin, Bolton, Gingrich, and Pawlenty.

Let's not forget this call. I expected WWIII to start after this statement:

I think that Ron Paul was the only voice of reason in that debate.
Google "Filipino Monkey"

From the Navy Times:

The threatening radio transmission heard at the end of a video showing harassing maneuvers by Iranian patrol boats in the Strait of Hormuz may have come from a locally famous heckler known among ship drivers as the “Filipino Monkey.”

Since the Jan. 6 incident was announced to the public a day later, the U.S. Navy has said it’s unclear where the voice came from. In the videotape released by the Pentagon on Jan. 8, the screen goes black at the very end and the voice can be heard, distancing it from the scenes on the water.

“We don’t know for sure where they came from,” said Cmdr. Lydia Robertson, spokeswoman for 5th Fleet in Bahrain. “It could have been a shore station.”

While the threat — “I am coming to you. You will explode in a few minutes” — was picked up during the incident, further jacking up the tension, there’s no proof yet of its origin. And several Navy officials have said it’s difficult to figure out who’s talking.

The establishment republicans know they can't win against Obama so I think they are weary of running. Unfortunately Ron did pretty bad against Obama in the latest 1v1 poll. I'm thinking the republicans could just throw in a person they know are going to lose just to say they did something.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8xn7uSHtkuA Oh the Huckster and his slimeball campaign manager and CNN political analyst, Ed Rollins, don't miss a trick. Ah, the coincidental white bookshelf "cross" background, that's classic sales/marketing 101.

The Huckster was @ NAMM, Anaheim, CA in January... hitting all the big musical companies and PR jamm sessions with guess artists everywhere. He's running, but will do another exploit game, after Romney's BAIN Capital, RomneyCare, and polling #'s drop and the rest of the no-name field polls lower against Barry. Then steps in Mike Huckabee to rescue the GOP, Tea Party, and neo wingnuts. Remember the Ed Rollins/Huckster big announcement scam, that was just used for free publicity/photo op/junket?

It's all planned, premeditated political campaign sleaze... it fits the Huckster perfectly. Watch the chess game unfold Ladies and Gentleman.

PS: I don't want to see another backdrop of the Declaration of Independence behind Huckabee... He's a frigin Fascist Flim-Flam artist.

Everybody is a pro war nut compared to Ron, but Huckabee is at least less pro war than all of the other candidates besides Ron. He's come out and said that we shouldn't be nation building in Afghanistan.
