Then of course they will use this to ban sales or attempt to ban sales.

from Fox:

- The slug that killed Terry came from an AK-47 dropped at the scene. The weapon was traced to a Phoenix gun store, which had reported the sale to ATF's "Project Gunrunner."
- The day after Terry was shot, sources say ATF arrested the man who bought that gun and many others, hoping to avoid embarrassment or an appearance of negligence.

Watch how quickly this gets used as a statistic in the reporting of US guns used in Mexican drug violence.

Brian Terry, Murdered Border Patrol Agent

An operation run by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) known as Project Gunrunner has been implicated by whistleblowers, incriminating documents and the work of Senator Charles Grassley in the December murder of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry, and now, the agent's family wants answers while the Justice Department is engaged in a “cover up.”

The BS spin begins......The ATF knew this before selling him the gun....stupid fucks

The gun was traced to a Dallas-area man, Otilio Osorio, allegedly part of a crime group that assists cartels by illegally selling them guns from the U.S,, one law enforcement source told Fox News, though it is unclear whether the Texas man knew what the gun would be used for.

This gets bigger. Both the DOJ and the ATF have denied these allegations during a Congressional investigation. At first it was just Sen. Grassley, now Sen. Paul and 16 other Senators have signed on to heap on the pressure.

Now at the exact same time, Obama has a new nominee for ATF Director, Travers. The Senate committee has delayed the hearings on the POTUS pick because Grassley is on the committee. But it has to happen at some point, their hopes are that this will blow over.

You know its bad when Janet Napolitano flies out to AZ to attend a funeral for a border patrol agent she has never met, and then weasels her way into actually speaking at his funeral. Now we suddenly have an impromptu meeting between Calderon and Obama? The truth is this, when this blows up there will be a fall guy, and no one on top will come down with them unless we push fast and hard.

This was being discussed on gun rights blogs a few weeks ago, and people were calling us "conspiracy theorists." Wonder if they'll change their tune now that CBS has covered it......probably not. The ATF will probably get a lot more funding instead.

Creating your own demand. Just when you think that we can start to peel back the size of government a new crisis suddenly comes along...

The policeman can be both batterer and thief, and, sell his services to protect from these evils.

Just made FOX news - Agent Terry armed with bean bags during encounter and shot with AK-47. They still don't have the rest of the picture - even after Larry spelled it out for them.

There was an interview the other day from FOX where Megyn Kelly was interviewing a guy from Gun Owner's of America (I think) and he mentioned this - and she quickly tried to shut him up.

I'm at work right now, so I can't search for the video...can someone else find it and post it?

It pisses me off.... When BP Agents and citizens try to defend themselves, they get prison time or are sued. The problem is Washington. It seems as if they want Mexican cartels to take us over.

Obviously more is going on besides some strategy to follow the guns to see where they are going.
March 3, 2011
Agent: I was ordered to let U.S. guns into Mexico

(CBS News) WASHINGTON - Federal agent John Dodson says what he was asked to do was beyond belief.

He was intentionally letting guns go to Mexico?

"Our subjects purchased 359 firearms during March alone"I'm boots on the ground in Phoenix, telling you we've been doing it every day since I've been here," he said.

The ATF will probably get a lot more funding instead.

Unfortunately, that may be the result. One could also speculate that increased funding and power was one of the goals of this "program".

The solution is obvious: fire the (ir)responsible persons and shut down the ATF. Move the good personnel to the FBI, but do not move the Budget dollars.

I was just telling this story to my fox news watching dad.. he didn't believe me and said I shouldn't be spreading vicious rumors like that... he said that would be like if you got in a fight with your neighbor and you gave him a gun, it doesn't make any sense..

I sent him some links.

Check this out. A leaked internal ATF memo published by CBS. I guess every one in a while they can rediscover true journalism.

This reinforces that oldie but goodie: "Alcohol, tobacco and firearms should be a convenience store, not a government agency."

I want to be sure that everyone here knows who is *REALLY* responsible for breaking this story.

Mike Vanderboegh and David Codrea (sipseystreetirregulars.blogspot.com and waronguns.blogspot.com) have been on this from the beginning.

CBS only knows about it because these men asked their readers to pound on the media - and we did. I can't even guess how many e-mails I sent, how many forum/comment posts, etc.

After MONTHS of work, this has finally hit prime-time, but it would have ***NEVER*** happened if not for Mike and David.``

Move the personnel into the ranks of the unemployed. I would forbid any of them from ever holding ANY government position. Ever. Not even toilet cleaner. The consequences for such action need t be real and severe. Without this, there is really very little incentive not to violate the public trust and the rights of citizens.

Jack Ruby ran guns to Cuban insurgents. Iran-Contra almost brought down Reagan. This could be quite the big deal.

Those guys did yeoman's work. Given the state of politics in this country, they may never get the credit they deserve for striking a blow for liberty. Threads were posted here when the info broke, with reference back to SSI and the WoG.

The struggle now is to have those responsible brought to account for their actions, and show the real motivation for these acts - to increase violence in order to sell the more gun control meme. My plan is to nail Congress to wall on this, because everything the ATF does either has the approval of Congress explicitly in law, or implicitly by failing to block ATF regulations and actions.
