View Full Version : Why I Quit the Democratic Party for Ron Paul

I just posted an article on the Ron Paul Beacon that has been pretty excruciating to write.

However, I wanted to share it with those of you who are former Democrats or know any Democrats who are on the fence:
http://www.ronpaulnewengland.com/index.php/why-i-quit-the-democratic-party

If you have any similar experiences to share I'd love to hear about them, either here or in the comments section of my post. I'd also love to hear new ideas about how to convert more Dems to our cause.

Pete

Good article, but I disagree with this statement:

"Democrats have the right motives (social justice) ..."

Maybe the general public who call themselves democrats, but not most of the Democrats in power:

Good point, I was over-generalizing. But I honestly have no idea whether Hillary means well and is just trying to be a shrewd, calculating politician with misguided ideas, or if she actually has ulterior motives. I am pretty upset that her rhetoric contradicts her voting record, particularly in regards to Iran. I don't care what motivations she has, that is just wrong.

This may convert more Republicans to RP than Democrats. If they can see a converted democrat clearly stating these issues that drew him to RP it may make them think about what issues they thought they were supporting in the other candidates.

Wow, I hadn't considered that. Good call.

Self, meet introspection...introspection, meet self. :D

Can we nominate this guy for "Member Spotlight" or something?

This would be awesome PR!

I think she's either a "delusional" or a "megalomaniac/sociopath".

Yeah. But for that matter I think most of the general public who call themselves republicans are for small government, but most of the Republicans in power are not.

Also a great point, and that's what I was thinking when I was writing the piece. But it didn't occur to me that there could be such a huge gap between everyday Democrats/Republicans and Democrats/Republicans who hold power. Do I need to become cynical now? ;)

A wonderful article. I always find it interesting to talk to people who come to this position from the left.

Thanks for the heart felt post peterchristopher. Stuff like this is the cold water dousing that many Americans need that are staunchly supporting another candidate and are closed to the idea of giving consideration to Ron Paul's positions. They just need someone to break them out of their hypnotic trance, wake up, and start thinking for themselves.

I believe the party espouses the ideal of social justice. In practice? Probably not.

They want to force us into accepting socialized medicine and make us pay for it at the same time. Is that really socially just?
