What are your opinions on this?

This could really make the sh*t hit the fan.

Food prices, jobs, gas. Why the hell didn't we drill when we had the chance last time?

Not to mention, so many people living on the edge. Gas prices will start another housing crisis.

i hope so...then people will get fed up with the bullshit status quo around election season and decide they have had enough and finally vote for revolutionary change.

^This. It's already pushing $3.50 for premium. Always gets worse in the summer...
I see $4/gal this year.

Well, if Wisconsin is any indication, it might bring about the wrong sort of revolution. A populist revolution perhaps.

I think a lot of our overseers have aces up their sleeves to prevent the shit hitting the fan.
I think they'll allow it to go to $5, and people will complain, and then fedgov will release some of their reserves, or perhaps we'll see price controls and shortages.
In any case, it's a good time to be in the business of converting diesels to run on waste oil.

Food prices, jobs, gas. Why the hell didn't we drill when we had the chance last time?

We always have the oil.
We didn't do it last time because the crisis wasn't severe enough.
When .gov allows them to do it this time, it'll be with stern warnings about the environment, and it'll come at the cost of a lot of extra regulation, red tape, and general expansion of the state.
They know full well that the cost of domestic gasoline will be $4.50 a gallon. They can't put their fascist police state in place for less than that. So it has to go higher than that to make it worth it.

I think we should be worrying about $5 sometime before 2012!

In Los Angeles, gas prices are already near 4 dollars. Some gas stations are already charging 4 dollars.

I live in the Portland metro area (which is heavily "progressive" with a dash of "socialism" thrown in for good measure) :)

Back in 2008, I went to a community meeting for a state Reps and Senators (progressives). This was back after gas prices had hit the high $4.00 range but they were starting to come down. A man stood up and wanted to know that "they" were going to do to ensure that gas prices could stay around $5.00 a gallon but he wanted to see more people back on public transportation (personal vehicles are 'evil'). He suggested that the state could increase gas taxes to accomodate this request of his.

Crazy!

In San Diego we're paying $3.60 for regular unleaded already. It will be $4.00 by summer at this rate!

America needs to become less dependent on automobiles. That is the only thing that will save us. There is no alternative energy that can compete with cheap oil.

More small local farms. More trains and busses. More mixed use zoning. More Walkable communities.

Less strip malls. Less agriculture and oil subsidies.

Brent Crude trading over 108 a barrel, we could hit 4 a gallon by April or May

I speculate 5$ a gallon easy by the end of the year. All the turmoil in the middle east will eventually catch up to gas prices, also the dollar as we all know will inflate while countries are trying to get rid of them and the fed just printing more. So with inflation and the middle east it is only a matter of time before the oil prices shoot up.

Portland is the Appalachian of the Western States with a Orwellian backwash mentallity. If it's a clear sunny day and theres no accident on the Terwilliger curves somethings wrong.

Unfortunately there's not much we can do. It's not exactly easy to buy gas now to hoarde later, and in many places not even legal.

Anyone here think that a high oil price will wake up the sheeple and bring down Obama's poll numbers?

Wake them to what? And what do Obama's poll numbers have to do with anything?

Obama has little or nothing to do with this.

Obama has little or nothing to do with this.

Wake them up to the fact that government is the problem not the solution.
Obama could do something about the out of control printing of money/growth of the money supply if he wanted to...the main reason for the inflation in commodities including oil....he could start telling the truth about what Bernanke is doing like Ron Paul.

So could John Bohner. Or any of the Republicans involved. i wouldn't expect anything from Obama but what he is told to say.

I am hoping that the events in the ME will shake and weaken OPEC, It has had a strangle hold on both production and pricing since the 70s.
Open competition has not existed since then.

What will happen to oil if the protests spread to Saudi Arabia and topples the royal family? $300 a barrel? Plus, China has just embraced the gold standard. China's currency will now be the world reserve currency. Gas could go to $10+ a gallon.

Oil hit 103.41. Now its at 100.95; What is your average gas for your city ? BHAM it is at : 3.093

Once oil goes up, it will be like a domino effect. All goods will cost more, and people living paycheck to paycheck will lose their homes and the financial mess will happen again.
