Now that is some impressive traffic control.

This was also before Gun Control. Any of those folks could buy a gun with No background check. through the mail.
Machine guns even.
Observe the carnage that caused.

In before 'this could never be done today'. :p

Really reminds me of the article 'Anarchy in the Streets'. If you haven't read it, read it: http://www.lewrockwell.com/shaffer/shaffer213.html

And it was before fiat money, too. Notice how prosperous, active and peaceful everyone is. No street signs telling people what they could and couldn't do. Yeah, I want some of that.

I just found out that this film was made one week before April 18th,1906. Almost every building on that street was destroyed on April 18th. Earthquake anyone? -- The Miles brothers made another film after the quake on the same street, "Market Street". You can see them both here in a 60-minutes report (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tYHGj19RrF0&NR=1&feature=fvwp)

Awesome video.
Weird that every single man, woman, child, and animal in that video is dead now, most long gone.
Funny to think of any of them being all in a hurry, as if whatever they were doing was so important, and a short time after the quake would hit and their whole lives would change.

I also wonder what those people thought about politics. Think about it. Heroin and cocaine were completely legal at that time!

That was beautiful. It looked like a beehive. Everyone gave the trolleys the right of way, but were still able to zip around them. I think this system could definitely be implemented in downtown sections of cities prone to traffic problems.

This is modern day driving anarchy, with spontaneous order.

I wonder if this is accurate - http://www.automobileindia.com/automobile-industry/auto-accident.html

They have far less accidents and injuries than the U.S. but more deaths by auto accident. From that video clip it seems the more deaths could be attributed to the amount of people riding motorcycles. Also, India's population is about four times the size of ours. I don't know if it's an accurate comparison but interesting none the less.

Interesting. It seems like just in that video there were about 27 almost accidents!

almost accidents?
Would that be an accident that didn't happen?

Happens to me all the time. I didn't cut myself with the chain saw, and the tree didn't fall on me. Also, my snowmobile didn't roll and crush me.
And my house didn't burn down.
Oh, and I didn't trip over my shoe laces either.

Love that video.

The Praxeology and Ethics of Traffic Lights (http://mises.org/daily/4745)

It is a clear-cut case of what is known in Austrolibertarian circles as spontaneous order. Rational human beings organize themselves and cooperate voluntarily without the need for government. It is not government, but people that build a civilized society. All government can do is destroy civilized behavior through its violent coercion.

What these examples of regulated and unregulated intersections show is about as close to a perfectly controlled social-behavioral experiment as one can possibly get, and they demonstrate concretely the truth of the libertarian position on the nature of man and society. In addition, they show the problem of "transition" from a socialist society to a free one is a rather insignificant problem. Were the state to completely disappear tomorrow, people would immediately begin to adapt and thrive in the new situation.

What this also demonstrates is yet another example of how government decivilizes people. The Austrolibertarian is aware of a plethora of government interventions into the free conduct of human beings, done in the name of safety, that either make us all less safe or simply create more daily annoyances. Such things include gun laws, airport security armed with naked-body scanners, the invasion of third-world countries, and even the regulation of household plumbing. None of these things make us safe. At best, they treat people more like animals than rational human beings. On average, they are harbingers of death.
[...]
In the age of the Internet, ideas can spread like wildfire. Show Cassini's videos (http://www.youtube.com/user/mjcassini#p/u) to everyone you know and show them that freedom really does work. We have the opportunity to strike a fatal blow to the monstrous parasite of government in the realm of ideas. People will begin to see clearly that even small local government creates nothing but death and destruction, and its elimination can bring about a new age of untold peace and prosperity. Once that happens, the state doesn't stand a chance.

This video maybe one of the best liberty tools on the shelf. Everybody can relate to driving -- After seeing the 1906 vid and the more modern vids as in the above, it tends to prove that freedom works. Perhaps with an appearance of disorder, but working none the less - and WITHOUT our overlords.
