Can we quit calling it "the public sector" and instead call them what they are "government workers"?

It's not "public" school it's "government school".

Don't fall into the statist nomenclature trap.

Somehow I doubt the protesters got a permit for their demonstration. How come so few of them have been arrested?

Theyre not thieves. The people that hire them are. Most of them would still have the same jobs, government or not.

Typically I agree with you: the gov't monopolizes the schooling/defense/etc. industries, and thus these people merely need to go to the pirates to practice the profession they've chosen.

However, in this case, the protesters are actively calling for more power, for more bargaining rights, for more money. They're not simply taking the job offered to them by thieves, they instead are calling for their masters to practice more thievery.

Though I still think I could side with them in some of their demands, as they are simply trying to bargain with the state-enforced monopsony. I'd even support them outright if they were calling for a teacher-owned school system without gov't monopoly privilege, but alas, they continue to shout empty slogans about how they are poor and disadvantaged, overworked, underpaid, and dependent on their union.

So they're not the thief with the gun in your back, but they're telling that guy how much money to demand when he steals from you.

They actually think they are necessary.....LOL. 75% or more of these services should be privatized.....They are socialists and most don't even know it

Yes they are starting to scare me...last night I got into a debate with 5 liberals and never called a one of them a name but they called me all kinds and I even got this below from the "teacher" and for the record I never said public schools were bad all I said was private schools were always better and this is what she responded to when I said that

Melissa I have a hard time reading any of the nonsense you are spitting out here, and I have no interest in getting into any sort of debate with you. I am a public school teacher, in those terrible "free" schools you are talking about. I ...find most of what you say ignorant and offensive. You claimed to be a former teacher, and then you claimed that private schools are ALWAYS better than public schools. I literally laughed out loud. I'm guessing you must have taught at a private school? Where they only have parents who are wealthy enough to pay for it? Where the kids get fed breakfast or might even be lucky enough to have someone read to them? I'm thankful you aren't influencing any young minds today. You are a perfect example of what is wrong with right wing thinking. You come off as being very arrogant and I can't bring myself to read another word from you since I'm afraid I might actually vomit on my laptop. Jeremy, you have a lot of patience to even engage in a conversation with this person. Good job on trying to educate her, sorry it wasn't possible. You'll have that sometimes. You and Eleasha were spot on with everything you were saying about education, and I am thankful there are people like you defending us. People that aren't trying to take away the food on my dinner table since I was crazy enough to spend my life trying to educate children. I just have to hope the world is full of more people like you, and less people like Melissa.
