View Full Version : Half of Republican Caucus Votes With Democrats To Block $22 Billion in Cuts

This, I guess, is the new $22 billion needed to get the cuts up to the promised $100 billion, and they blocked it.

Read on and you will hear Rodgers, who needs to be gone as soon as possible, claiming that automatic across-the-board spending cuts are "lazy." [...]

Okay, I give up. I wanted to give this two party system a try. Forget it. It's time for a third party, the Tea Party.

The GOP is dead to me. Hal Rodgers and posturing lying phony Eric Cantor need to be replaced.

I thought they'd be more fearful of the Tea Party. At least half the caucus is, which is good. The other half needs to get primaried.

Unfortunately, no.

Unfortunately, no.

Thought so.

Without a balanced budget amendment, there is no chance they will ever cut.

I know this is off topic, but I was in awe last night over a facebook profile picture you made, as I'm sure you heard. Very cool! I've been meaning to start a thread on it, but alas med school exam studying has prevented this.

Most new Republicans voted to cut.

The old guard and leadership, including Eric Cantor, voted against cutting.

Let them do nothing. The lesson in doing so is unavoidable.

If only Obama would do the right thing and print loads more money, so that the poor can be rich too. Afterall, it's only fair. Social justice and all that... Oh wait a second...

Why exactly is the GOP voting against spending cuts?

No, but I'm mildly amused that anyone is. Hopefully they'll take it as a learning opportunity...

Why exactly is the GOP voting against spending cuts?

Because they're weak and give in to special interests. They don't care about cutting, it's all rhetoric just to get elected.

That wouldn't even stop them. It aint like they follow the constitution to begin with. As long as the world is willing to accept our debt, they won't cut.

It'd be harder for them to wiggle out of obeying an Amendment that was crafted in our lifetimes though, because they couldn't manipulate the public into thinking it means something other than what it says. Of course, if there's a "time of war" exception, well...it's always a time of war.

Either way, it aint happening. As long as we can issue debt, we will. We gotta hit rock bottom before we'll crawl into a D.A. meeting.

Nevertheless, I hope Mike Lee and Rand lead a filibuster against raising the debt ceiling without a BBA, and it gets to something that is at least fun to watch.

I think that the Supreme Court would enforce a clear cut amendment like that.

I'm not so sure. If five out of the nine don't like it though, they'll probably do everything they can to avoid hearing a case about it. Anyone who tries bringing it to their attention will "lack standing." In the end, it may only be extreme public outrage that enforces it.

If 80 billion in cuts is the point at which republicans start joining with the democrats, it is clear that the country is headed for a collapse and there is nothing Dr. Paul, you, or I can do about it. How on earth is our country going to get support for 1.6 trillion more in budget cuts along with SEVERE entitlement when they can't even get a 100 billion? The only force that can compensate for such ridiculous spending is inflation. Prepare for monetization of government debt into infinite and a dramatically lower standard of living. Maybe after the system crashes, people will remember that the liberty movement and Ron Paul were right and we can rebuild from solid ground. Until that moment, though, the current state of affairs is just plain depressing. :(
