He may be tied with a generic Republican but Obama leads against all of the named candidates in this poll. He has a 3 point advantage over Mike Huckabee at 47-44, a 5 point one over Mitt Romney at 46-41, a 9 point one over Newt Gingrich at 49-40, a 9 point one also over Ron Paul at 48-39, a 12 point one over Sarah Palin at 52-40, a 14 point one over Jeb Bush at 50-36, and a 14 point one over Donald Trump at 48-34.

Obama does better against the real Republicans than the generic ones for a very simple reason: with the exception of Huckabee voters just don't like any of those folks. Huckabee does have a positive favorability rating, at 36/30. The rest are all in negative territory: Jeb Bush's net favorability is -8 (29/37), Mitt Romney's is -9 (33/42), Ron Paul's is -21 (24/45), Sarah Palin's is -22 (34/56), Newt Gingrich's is -25 (27/52), and Donald Trump's is -29 (27/56).

Ron Paul would do even better against Obama in the debates, because Dr. Paul brings up issues that the Republicans won't touch.

In 2008, McCain came out in favor of the bailouts one month before the election, a move which pretty much decided the outcome. The other candidates are in the same boat. Dr. Paul can attract independents like Rand did, because he's the only Presidential contender that has credibility on cutting the debt.

Why is anyone even bothering with Donald Trump?

So he ties with Gingrich. Well, we can do better.

If he's in the mid-range of all these contenders, how the F do they get away with "he doesn't have a chance in hell"????

Most people don't think he can get past the Republican nomination.. and they have reason to believe that. He always places around 5th to 7th and gets around 7% — 10%. That said, the media and media personalities definitely exaggerate when they say Ron has zero chance.

Aren't there regulations in the FEC rules about what can be done on political commercials and debates in the 90 days prior to the election? I'll have to go back and read up on rulings and RNC/DNC agreements (Rigged False Dichotomy of the Duopoly).

meh i'll wait for other polls to confirm that.. seems like some troll stats i mean the unfavorables for gingrich and palin are just too high to make sense Sarah Palin's is -22 (34/56), Newt Gingrich's is -25 (27/52)

and huckabee being the only one drastically ahead is just a joke.. the same ppl who would vote for huckabee would hate gingrich so much that he gets 1.5 times the negative? some polling this is.. refuted by common sense. that's some heck of a job

Regardless of the rules, in 2008 both candidates were pushing for the bailout in the news media. If someone like Ron Paul faces Obama, the Independents (who don't pay much attention until the end) would have a clear difference for the first time ever.

It is purposely done to swing votes away from Ron Paul. Like the polls done months ago where 'nobody-Republicans' that well, no one knew were polled in, and Paul was almost 3rd to last.
