WASHINGTON (AP) - The Senate on Tuesday voted to extend for 90 days the legal life of three post-Sept. 11 terrorism-fighting measures, including the use of roving wiretaps, that are set to expire at the end of the month.

The short-term extension gives lawmakers a chance to review the measures that critics from both the right and left say are unconstitutional infringements on personal liberties.....

This after they tried to pass a three year extension last night by unanimous consent, which failed when Rand objected.

No, and last time it passed on unanimous consent.

Not this time.

But won't the house and senate have to reconcile the differences and vote on it again before the end of the week?

I think we need to give a shout-out here to Mike Lee. He was the only other GOP Senator to oppose the Patriot Act.

No, this version is being sent to the House to vote on and they expect it to pass so there will be a 90 extension, and they'll regroup after the break.

Hear, hear. I expected Rand to be great from the start, but Mike Lee has definitely been a much greater friend to Liberty than I anticipated. He's another *true* Tea Partier.

I doubt they will do much reviewing. More likely they need time to make bribes.

Curse the 17th Amendment!
