Machine guns and automatic weapons have been prohibited for private possession since 2008. The vote was whether Army reservists would have to turn in their select fire issue weapons to armories and other measures to regulate private ownership of weapons.

More about the recent Swiss referendum here.

Swiss citizens still enjoy a lot of gun rights when compared to other European nations. A heavily armed population has kept the country free for 800 years and stopped Nazi Germany from invading Switzerland during WW2.
But the right to be armed has come under increased attack since Switzerland joined the United Nations about 8 years ago. But it's good to see people over there still standing up for and defending their traditional rights.
