Hey guys, I need some help. I'm doing a project on the "dark side" of psychology and how it has been abused by statists both in North America and abroad over the years. Could anyone point me to some good books about mind control, psychological torture, and the practice of labeling of dissenters as insane? Thanks.

Probably the best book I've ever read about how governments use guilt manipulation to increase power. Very eye-opening book.

not really an example of abuse, but it shows that psychology (nor is any science) "pure" and adheres to the scientific method (and is immune to ideology)...given how much it's dominated by liberal individuals, there will tend to be more of a support of statist ideals/ideologies or ones that are skeptical of people's ability to choose reliably and accurately for themselves.

Research Milgram's 1962/1963 study on Obedience.

Research Zimbardo's "Stanford Prison Experiment".

Neither study could be replicated today because both were highly unethical. Yet they got published, and they actually made Phil Zimbardo PRESIDENT of the American Psychological Association.

Um...what on earth are you talking about? Rushdoony "was no friend of Liberty"? Whatttttttt? Are you one of those nuts who thinks the founding fathers who were Christians were "no friends of Liberty" too? LOLOLOLOL

Rushdoony: Champion Of Faith And Liberty

Despite, or rather, because, of his commitment to the binding authority of God’s Word, Rushdoony was an unflagging advocate of liberty: political, religious, and ecclesiastical. Two of his books from the 60s, The Nature of the American System and This Independent Republic showed that the United State's heritage of freedom is anchored squarely in the Bible and the Christian Faith. He considered himself a"Christian libertarian," and he believed that sustained political liberty was impossible apart from orthodox Christianity. He hated with a passion every form of statism (including "Christian" statism), and he was almost as hard on secular libertarians as he was on statists, since both, he was convinced, manifested a sinful autonomy toward God that guaranteed the tyranny of man by his fellow man.

I think this is an excellent example:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draptomania

Drapetomania was a supposed mental illness described by American physician Samuel A. Cartwright in 1851 that caused black slaves to flee captivity.[1] Today, drapetomania is considered an example of pseudoscience,[2] and part of the edifice of scientific racism.

How libertarian is wanting to execute people for public blasphemy, idolatry and apostasy?

It may be good for you to look up libertarian-influenced psychiatrist Thomas Szasz. He has plenty of books out. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Szasz

I think this is an excellent example:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draptomania

"If any one or more of them, at any time, are inclined to raise their heads to a level with their master or overseer, humanity and their own good requires that they should be punished until they fall into that submissive state which was intended for them to occupy. They have only to be kept in that state, and treated like children to prevent and cure them from running away."

Great link. Never heard of this one. Things seem to never change. Now we are tax slaves or welfare slaves, voting for masters who will never end the income tax or government welfare, and try to scare us with IRS audits or threatening to stop the welfare checks.

It is imperative that we begin to understand how psychology plays a HUGE part in how we choose our leaders. Good and evil lurks in the minds of all of us... it is not nearly so black and white and many have made it an artform as to how to play off the two voices in all of us, particularly those who have a sound understanding of how the law works namely lawyers. It comes down to one word: Fear. Usually, it is usually unconscious but it is human nature to always trade freedom for security... and there will ALWAYS be psychopaths willing to offer security for power. That is how the ego which resides in the darkness of all our minds works.

Here's a good read but will probably scare you as to how F'ed up our professed leaders in today's world are:
