One side of my family came from there/is still there, so I take interest.

And they have a new senate seat coming empty in 2012. We really should find someone there!

Outside of the 'cities', North Dakota is still the old United States. When I was stationed up there, I was surprised when some places in rural areas only took cash, didn't care about anything as long as no one was getting hurt and only had a Sheriff and a deputy or two.

It's really a trade off in terms of how social you want to be and how free you want to be. Just stay away from Minot!

whats wrong with minot? Do you expect the troops in the base to go out and start arresting people?

FEMA hasn't been needed since it's creation.
A horrible program, horribly implemented.

The local PD was observing the 'police state' stop and ID for everything.

No! USAF Police (Security Forces) will not perform law enforcement outside of government property—unless they suspect a person to be military and doing something against the UCMJ... they better make damn sure that the person is military.

Citizens can sue MP's for false arrest if they violate Posse Comitatus outside of absolute or qualified martial law.

Yes I did... Minot observes the ID procedures. It's not like rural North Dakota. That was my only point.

I remember they wanted to evacuate the city of Fargo in preperation of the flood. Everyone here and the mayor basically said, "Hell no, we're gonna fight."
