But it's been a very good day for the revolutions.

Why do these governments keep shutting down the Internet? They might as well just start "blacking out" television by taking down all the video streams and replacing them with a big image of the Algerian President shouting "FUCK YOU!" at the citizens for how effective it's proven itself at calming people down.

I always laugh at the facebook stuff. It was created basically because of a "hot or not" website.

And everyone knows that the government did so because they were predicted by academic economists to be the best days to declare bank closures!

Funny thing is that I had built a team of freelancers in Cairo before the revolution. After Jan 25th, work stopped, so I shifted the work to a team in Algeria. Now...

I think they're wrong.

Try connecting to the following Algerian sites (.dz is Algeria's TLD):

http://aps.dz/ <-- No response
http://poste.dz/ <-- No response
http://www.algerietelecom.dz/ <-- Works. Worth noting it's a gov't site. //When I did a tracert a moment later, site was down.
http://www.meteo.dz/ <-- No response
http://www.joradp.dz/ <-- Also works. Also gov't site. Tracert suggests it's hosted in Spain.
http://www.cg.gov.dz/ <-- No response

No, I can still email my staff in Algeria (although they mysteriously disappeared from Facebook). Yesterday they told me internet is still on, but they fully expect it to go if things get critical.

lol! - you sure know how to pick um!
So what were your 3rd and 4th country picks? :)

This is quite interesting...
http://www.gunpolicy.org/firearms/region/algeria

The estimated total number of guns held by civilians in Algeria is 1.9 million
The rate of private gun ownership in Algeria is 7.62 firearms per 100 people

The defense forces of Algeria are reported to have 797,500 firearms
Police in Algeria are reported to have 71,400 firearms

Yes, private citizens have 2 firearms for every 1 the government does.
The prospects of this being put down militarily do not look good!

Man I'm afraid to name a 3rd country and find a revolution there as well :)

But work in Cairo has continued now, I have big expectations for the Egyptian economy. Their stock market will be a buying opportunity.

But it's been a very good day for the revolutions.

Friday is Jummah prayer time so everyone gets together and that's why its good for revolting. There's always a speech given by the imam at the end of the prayer, and that speech is known as "khutbah". During the Islamic festivals of "Eid" there's also prayer and khutbah. If Eid falls on a Friday, then there are two prayer sessions and two khutbas. According to some Muslims, if Eid is on a Friday, the government in charge almost always goes down.
