Oppose Patriot Act Extension for 2011 (http://www.votervoice.net/core.aspx?AID=972&Screen=alert&IssueId=23397&APP=GAC&SiteID=-1&VV_CULTURE=en-us)

Sample Email to Send:

The Patriot Act has proven to be one of the most ineffective programs for preventing terrorist attacks and addressing matters of real national security that Congress has ever foisted upon the people. However, under this same Patriot Act, it is law-abiding Americans who have been the targets of invasive and unconstitutional laws, in direct conflict with the Bill of Rights, in their own homes and businesses, on the streets, in airports, mass transit stations, and in their private correspondence and financial transactions .

The Patriot Act has specifically gutted the Fourth Amendment, particularly the requirements for probable cause, oaths, and warrants. And the Patriot Act is a clear violation of the Congressional oath of office, one that demands office holders to uphold the rights and civil liberties guaranteed under the Constitution.

Please put an end to the existing and ever-expanding domestic spying program by letting the sun go down on the Patriot Act this February of 2011. The "papers please" mentality of Congress is appalling and un-American.

Uphold the Constitution: Vote "Nay" on extending or reauthorizing the provisions of the Patriot Act.

Thanks for the reminder. Sent to my representative Michael T. McCaul. Of course sending to him is like asking GWB to overturn the "Patriot" Act. McCaul is bought & paid for by the New York Money Men, and I'm sure my e-mail to him will fall on deaf ears. Nevertheless, that's my Egyptian protest moment.

PERSONAL
Prior to coming to Congress, Michael McCaul served as Chief of Counter Terrorism and National Security in the U.S. Attorney’s office in Texas, and led the Joint Terrorism Task Force charged with detecting, deterring and preventing terrorist activity. Congressman McCaul also served as Texas Deputy Attorney General under current U.S. Senator John Cornyn, and served as a federal prosecutor in the Department of Justice’s Public Integrity Section in Washington, D.C.

God I hope this does not pass, no one wants it except for politicians in Washington...have they gone nuts? If they pass this I want them held accountable in court for violating the 4th amendment. They have no right.

I want a repeal of Obamacare and a repeal of the DHS and TSA. The DHS is becoming a naziesque police-state organ. Really really frightening what that thing is becoming, the DHS is at war with the American people and their freedoms....it ought to abolished pronto.

This is what my Congressman Randy Forbes had to say when I said how disappointed I was with his vote for it.

Mr. Mike Corcoran
1211 Welles Court
Chesapeake, VA 23320-7601

Dear Mr. Corcoran:

Thank you for contacting me regarding the reauthorization of the Patriot Act.

Government is legitimately charged with defending life, liberty, and property against both domestic and foreign predators. First among those obligations is to protect life. With the plausible threat of future terror attacks, and lives at risk, civil liberties cannot remain inviolable.

Congress is currently debating many provisions in the USA Patriot Act that raise concerns. As reauthorization of the Patriot Act is considered, Congress and the Department of Justice will have the opportunity to study the effects key provisions, including those governing wiretap and surveillance, have on our freedoms before deciding if they should be permanent law enforcement tools.

I will continue to assess the Patriot Act and evaluate the balance between national security and personal infringement. As your representative in Congress, I will do all that I can to protect against abuse by law enforcement personnel and will certainly keep your comments in mind as reauthorization of the Patriot Act is considered in the House.
Again, thank you for taking the time to contact me. As your Representative in Congress, I appreciate your input in this matter. As always, if I may be of assistance to you on this, or any other issue, please feel free to contact me in my Washington DC office at (202) 225-6365 or online at www.house.gov/forbes. With kind personal regards, I am

Yours truly,

J. RANDY FORBES
Member of Congress

What is a "motion to recommit"(sp)?

tangent4ronpaul
02-14-2011, 05:41 PM
There is some equivalent to an amendment going on now that would make the gvmt more responsive - nix the you can't talk about national security letters part and expedite civil rights suites against the gvmt. Looks like a pure party line vote - ie: loose as the dems are pushing it. Then the "recommit" - ie: renewing the 3 objectionable provisions for a year. 15 min vote followed by 5 min vote.
