The events surrounding Egypt over the past few weeks reveal an interesting situation for the foreign policy of the United States. For decades the USA has professed to be a “beacon of democracy” while simultaneously being allies with numerous autocratic regimes, otherwise known as dictators.

We are often told that the close connection the USA has to Israel is based upon Israel being the lone democracy in the middle east. We support them supposedly because we support the idea of people being free to govern themselves. Somehow at the same time the USA supports the King of Jordan to the tune of over $600 million in aid annually. The USA also supports Saudi Arabia and their non-elected King. The USA supported President Mubarak in Egypt for the past 30 years too. The second largest recipient of aid, after Israel, is Egypt which receives about $2 billion in aid annually. Are these nations poor and in need of handouts from American taxpayers?

The USA is heavily in debt and must borrow funds just to function. More money is borrowed to pay the interest on the overwhelming debt and there is no end in sight to this disastrous cycle. A nation, just like a person, can not borrow their way out of debt. Does it make sense that America is borrowing money from nations like China in order to give it away to foreign dictators?

The reality is that aid money always comes with strings attached. Foreign aid is simply a money laundering scheme. The USA borrows money, gives it to a dictator like Mubarak in Egypt, which he then spends on American F-16 fighters, tanks, helicopters and such. Egypt gets free military gear, military industrial companies get huge orders and revenue, China gets more interest payments and the American taxpayers... they get the bill. Does this system cause more help or harm to the average American?

People everywhere yearn to be free and to have liberty. The people of Egypt have risen up and demanded freedom from their 30 year, self-appointed President. As of today, the people of Egypt have shed their autocratic regime that the USA has steadfastly supported for decades with billions and billions of dollars. Now the power elite in D.C. must pretend to support the people and their will to govern themselves. What they are really worried about is maintaining money laundering that has made many men rich. If American support of Israel is truly based on them being a democracy in the region, then revolutions like that in Egypt are to be applauded. Instead we have been hearing propaganda telling us to fear the Muslim Brotherhood.

The sad fact is the the power elite in the USA do not support democracy. The foreign policy of the United States supports regimes that support business interests. Iran, the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas are not supported by American politicians because they do not support the American business interests. Ask yourself, is the USA truly a “beacon of democracy” or simply a business empire looking for continued growth?

The foreign policy of the United States and foreign aid payments speak louder than any politician's words to the contrary.

Good thoughts.

It really is amusing to see the USA politburo running in to a situation that they can't spin. This really was an epic foreign policy failure, and it would be too blatantly Orwellian for them to continue to support Mubarak and at the same time say that they are pro-democracy. And really, the Washington gang has had no trouble cranking out Orwellian quotes and positions in the past, but this time it would be too much for them to do so. So they are forced to change their position on a dime, and pretend the events in Egypt were not a cracking blow to the theories their entire foreign policy is based on.
