Looks like someone just saw a quote they liked and then posted it on their Facebook without looking into the context or the speaker behind the quote.

I am the author of that post. The point is that the GOP is simply a slower version of socialism than the Democrats. If you look at the GOP's entire history in relation to the Democrats, you see that the GOP is always about 2 decades behind the Dems. In short, their is no difference between the two - a point I make repeatedly in other writings.

When GOP activists began speaking of a "living wage" in relation to a couple of immigration bills here in Georgia, it triggered a long dormant memory in my mind of a college American History class, where we spend a good deal of time looking at Debs' era and the speeches he gave - which bore remarkable resemblance to today's GOP rhetoric. The difference, as noted in the post, is that Debs was the single highest vote getter for President in the Socialist Party USA's history.

As far as the "LP Georgia director quoted" - he wasn't. He was referenced in relation to post about 24 hrs ago (from the time I write this) of a video of a debate between him and DA King, another "conservative" activist who used Debs' living wage concept in defense of these same bills.

If we don't call out ignorance where we see it, who will? Perhaps if the conservatives had learned to stand for SOMETHING at some point, they wouldn't be in this position. Unfortunately, they have not, and they are.
