There is much more to this story (if you have been paying attention to history)
I am waiting for the videos of his interview to be translated and will post when I find them.

Some tweets

@sandmonkey A revolution organized by facebook, spread by twitter and organized by a guy working for Google. #jan25 #ILOVEOURREVOLUTION

@Siem29: Egyptians tweeting that Wael @Ghonim just became the mayor of Tahrir Square #Jan25 #Egypt

@monaeltahawy: Remember: Muslim Brotherhood didn't start #Egypt uprising. It is not theirs to give away to #Suleiman, #Mubarak or anyone else. #Jan25

saw his interview on cnn. He basically said that he was captured by four men that were holding him but that he is not a hero because he was just some guy at a keyboard and that he was never in danger.

When you don't see anything but a black scene for 12 days you keep praying that those outside still remember you. Thanks everyone #Jan25
But others are saying,

On a related note, does learning about how the Egyptian police work make anyone else think we should maybe abolish the CIA? The whole "secret police/army" thing is seeming incredibly threatening now.

There are many lessons here, Tactical and Practical. This is why I am glued to it.
What is happening will change the world. It will affect us.
And some of this is and will be used against us.

In a crowd so attuned to the internet, I am surprised that so few here are aware.

I've been glued to it, too. And I totally agree...some of the lessons will be used against us. On the bright side, I don't think the internet kill switch will be deployed again. On the downside, net tracking tech is about to be invented/deployed in mass, I bet. And the PTB have just learned that gov-sanctioned/promoted conspiracy theories can be highly effective. Not sure how well journalist-targeted conspiracy theories would work in the West, though. Then again, we all "knew" that Al Jazeera was a tool of terrorism in 2003 when we bombed them in Iraq. Hopefully that little trick was a one off, though.

A paranoid-speculative "what have the PTB learned?" thread might be interesting.

I get the vibe that about 50% of the people here are hip. And then there are a couple of people who are buying the propaganda coming from Fox and State TV (did you see any of those Egyptian tweets about how scary the coverage similarities were/are between Fox and Egyptian state TV?)

Another question floating around my mind is...how often does US media get threatened by directives concerning the all-powerful "national security"?

3:35am Since Wael Ghonim's release from Egyptian custody and emotional TV interview on DreamTV, thousands of supporters have joined a new Facebook page created in his honour. Its called: We authorise Wael Ghoneim to speak on behalf of the Egyptian revolution.

More often than they admit. i don't even watch the American propaganda services anymore. save for some clip of interest.

The Ron Paul Revolution was largely Internet based, I see a startling similarity here. But we weren't getting arrested much.
This guy started a Facebook page that connected the country. he accidentally started a revolution.
One that was long overdue.

Wael did a 45-minute interview right after his released, during which he broke down crying more than once. I'm translating and subbing right now, should be up before the end of the day (here).
