Tuesday, February 8th
On Tuesday, the House will meet at 2:00 p.m. for legislative business. Votes will be postponed until 6:30 p.m.

Legislation Considered Under Suspension of the Rules:

1) H.R. 514 - To extend expiring provisions of the USA PATRIOT Improvement and Reauthorization Act of 2005
and Intelligence Reform of Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 relating to access to business records,

We know Ron Paul and Justin Amash will vote no. I wonder how many will join them.

Well now that the GOP has pledged to honor the constitution and not support any legislation that is not constitutional... who do we complain to when they pass this tripe?

Boehner?

I think we should email our own reps and Boehner saying this is unconstitutional intrusion on the lives of innocent Americans contrary to our Constitution and they should support the tea party that put them there and get rid of it. If you have a GOP rep. I'll just send something like 'vote no on the patriot act' to mine, Feinstein is trying to extend it for LONGER than a year, and Boxer hasn't come out against it ever before. And Berman is useless. He really needs a challenger.

If you are going to contact your reps, here's some good info to help you frame an intelligent argument:

Repeal or Revise – the Problems with the PATRIOT Act (http://www.rlc.org/2011/01/31/repeal-or-revise-the-problems-with-the-patriot-act/)

The three provisions set to expire are the "roving wiretap" provision, which allows the government to conduct surveillance without specifying person or place being wiretapped; the "library records" provision that allows the government to collect "any tangible thing" during an investigation; and the "lone wolf" provision, which targets "non-US" persons unaffiliated with terrorists.

If your representative is a conservative Republican it's not a good idea to send them an article by the ACLU.

My representative is a progressive Democrat.

Dear Representative Lois Capps,

You have an opportunity to out-Constitution the latest class of Republicans by voting NO on re-authorizing the Patriot Act.

This unconstitutional bill will likely pass right through the Republican controlled congress, even after the Tea Party has tried to invigorate a stronger adherence to Constitutional principles in the Republican Party

Please consider standing up for the Civil Liberties of all Americans and vote against this legislation, and help highlight the hypocrisy of many of the new Republicans in office.

Is the house even going to debate this on the house floor before they vote on it?

From the National Association of Gun Rights:

As if they weren't already throwing enough anti-freedom legislation at us, a new emergency calls upon Americans like you and me to take action.

The Patriot Act is scheduled to sunset in a matter of weeks but the statists in D.C. plan to reauthorize it as soon as tomorrow without any debate.

You see, they're taking advantage of a parliamentary trick known as the Suspension Calendar which allows votes with no hearings and no debate but is only supposed to be used for "non-controversial" legislation.

However, this move requires 2/3rds of the House which puts our victory firmly within grasp.

That's why you and I need to take action right now!

Please call your rep.

And then send an email by clicking here (http://paracom.paramountcommunication.com/ct/5318873:7964880308:m:1:219165064:2A6BDCD755C9155D2 729F03C32AF497F).

Reauthorization of the mis-named Patriot Act gives government jackboots more and more tools in their war on gun owners and gun rights activists, who Obamacrats smear as “Radical Extremists” and even “Domestic Terrorists.”

Some of the very worst provisions of the Patriot Act include:

Roving, warrantless wiretaps of virtually EVERY form of electronic communication used by U.S. citizens.
Secret federal searches without warrants OR knowledge of the resident.
Blanket warrants for the search and seizure of all library records, without naming individual suspects or providing probable cause.
Judicial warrants replaced with “National Security Letters” signed by unaccountable Obama Administration bureaucrats and gag orders for those served with these letters which make it illegal to tell anyone about it -- including your spouse and your priest!
Drastic expansion of the definition of “domestic terrorism,” which is sure to include gun owners.
Expands asset seizure to permit the taking of assets from anyone “suspected” of terrorism, even if that person is NEVER charged or sent to trial.
Lone wolf provisions which allow the government to spy on ANYONE even if they’re not associated with a terrorist organization or foreign national, without due process or notification.

That's why you and I need to take action right now!

Please call your rep.

And then send an email by clicking here (http://paracom.paramountcommunication.com/ct/5318873:7964880308:m:1:219165064:2A6BDCD755C9155D2 729F03C32AF497F).

Even a gesture as simple as placing a pro-gun bumper sticker on your car or supporting a pro-gun candidate makes you a potential “domestic terrorist” in the eyes of the Obamacrats currently running our government.

That makes YOU a potential target of unconstitutional domestic spying.

So please take action right away!

P.S. Anti-gun congressmen plan to to bring the Patriot Act up for a vote in the House through a parliamentary trick known as the Suspension Calendar which requires no hearings and no debate but is only supposed to be used for "non-controversial" legislation.

From the CFL:

February 7, 2011

Dear Matt,

Congress is once again trying to sneak through an attack on our rights by reauthorizing the so-called "PATRIOT" Act with as little debate and scrutiny as possible.

You see, a vote is expected on Tuesday to place "PATRIOT" Act reauthorization on the Suspension Calendar, and it will pass easily unless you and I take immediate action.

No amendments will be allowed, and debate will be limited to 40 minutes.

It's vital you contact your representative immediately and demand they oppose any effort to reauthorize the so-called "PATRIOT" Act through legislative trickery without debates or amendments.

Please call your rep or click here (http://paracom.paramountcommunication.com/ct/5318439:7963705769:m:1:170731130:546CB704782BF371D 7B2C7F7498689C6) to email a clear message that a vote for a suspension calendar with the so-called "PATRIOT" Act on it is a vote for roving wiretaps, secret sneak and peek searches conducted without the knowledge of the subject, search and seizure of library records, and so-called "national security letters" signed by anonymous bureaucrats replacing warrants signed by a judge.

Last year, the statists slipped reauthorization of the so-called "PATRIOT" Act through with little opposition.

You and I cannot allow the Constitution-shredding "PATRIOT" Act, with its roving wiretaps and secret searches, to be reauthorized through parliamentary shenanigans and without debate or amendments.

So contact your rep or click here (http://paracom.paramountcommunication.com/ct/5318439:7963705769:m:1:170731130:546CB704782BF371D 7B2C7F7498689C6) immediately to email a clear message that a vote for a suspension calendar with the so-called "PATRIOT" Act on it is a vote for roving wiretaps, secret sneak and peek searches conducted without the knowledge of the subject, search and seizure of library records, and so-called "national security letters" signed by anonymous bureaucrats replacing warrants signed by a judge.

You and I must speak up in defense of every American's civil liberties and the Bill of Rights.

Please, call your Rep. right away!
