I'm arriving in DC by train, and taking a cab from Union Station to the CPAC Hotel, and the hotel claims it is a 2 hour cab ride with traffic!

Can anybody confirm or deny this? It's 4.5 miles, there is no way its possibly 2 hours right!

This would totally derail my transportation plans!

I would not ride the cab from Union Station to the hotel. I am arriving by train, too, and I'm going to take the metro rail to the Woodley Park station, which is only like a 10 minute ride that costs $1.60. (both Union Station and Woodley Park are on the red line)

Should take like 20 minutes.

Who knows, it make take longer due to the traffic for CPAC.

I did that last year, and the traffic is getting around DC Metro, not really caused by CPAC.

I agree, take the Metro. It's the easiest way to get around DC if you are going more than a few blocks. It'll only cost you maybe $5 or less. It leaves straight from Union Station and will dump you out next to the hotels. Look for Woodly Park Zoo / Adam's Morgan Station.

I live in DC and like the others said DO NOT take a cab, just take the metro. 2 hours might be exaggerating, but the metro is quicker in any case, and its only a few bucks. The hotel is right off the metro stop.

Take the Metro.

A lot of the quotes for cabs, by the way, include wait times once you call them. It can be over an hour before a cab is dispatched to your particular location and you meet one another. Cabs are usually not lined up in the DC area waiting for fares.
