The most important thing to do first is to detoxify the kidneys. You can buy all of these at your local nutrition store. There is also intravenous glutathione which is a lot more effective then vitamind. Resveratol helps with high blood pressure and fights kidney oxidative damage. COQ10 is a powerful antioxidant that Avoid anything with sodium, potassium and phosphorous levels.

There are reports of doctors in India reversing renal and kidney failure using ayurvedic medicine.

List of Treatments that help reverse kidney damage and renal failure:

Reservatol

==========

"A 2007 study from a team of scientists at the Departments of Physiology and Pathology at the University of Sao Paul in Brazil showed that the red wine extract ameliorated glycerol-induced renal injury by suppressing inflammation and inhibiting lipid peroxidation. This further confirmed Resveratrol’s anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative properties.

Another research conducted at the Pharmacology Division of the University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences in Chandigarh, India showed promising Resveratrol treatment of rhabdonyolysis-induced myoglobinuric acute renal failure (ARF) which is essentially the same as glycerol-induced acute renal failure that accounts for 10% to 40% of all ARF cases.

A 5-10 mg/kg Resveratrol concentrate administered to lab rats prior to glycerol injection significantly attenuated renal dysfunction, reduced nitric oxide levels, reduced thiobarbituric acids and restored depleted antioxidant enzymes in kidneys.

These promising results indicate father corroborative tests are needed. Subsequent clinical trials in human patients are often the last step before Resveratrol can secure FDA approval as a safe and effective treatment of renal diseases. This will take some time but the tests clearly pave the way for future new treatment strategies for some of the deadliest ailments."

Glutathione or N-Acetyl-Cysteine

================================

"GSH plays important roles in the prevention and treatment of renal failure, the anemia that often accompanies kidney failure and dialysis, and the cardiovascular complications of kidney disease. GSH-modifying agents offer promising treatments for both short and long-term complications of kidney failure.

GSH acts as both a detoxifier and as an antioxidant, preventing lipid peroxidation. Because some whey proteins contain additional nutritional benefits and act as glutathione precursors, they are a useful complement to traditional therapy."

COQ10

=====

"A nutrient that the body needs in small amounts to function and stay healthy. CoQ10 helps mitochondria (small structures in the cell) make energy. It is an antioxidant that helps prevent cell damage caused by free radicals (highly reactive chemicals). CoQ10 is fat-soluble (can dissolve in fats and oils) and is found in fatty fish, beef, soybeans, peanuts, and spinach. It is being studied in the prevention and treatment of some types of cancer and heart disease and in the relief of side effects caused by some cancer treatments. Also called coenzyme Q10, Q10, ubiquinone, and vitamin Q10. "

"In studying 21 patients with chronic renal failure who were on or off dialysis (serum creatinine levels of 5 mg/dl or above), 11 were assigned to an intervention group that received coenzyme Q10 at 60mg, 3 times daily, compared with 10 subjects who received a placebo (cellulose) at 1 g, 3 times daily. There was a significant reduction in serum creatinine and blood urea and a significant increase in creatinine clearance and urine output in the coenzyme Q10 group versus the placebo group after the 4-week trial. After 4 weeks, the subjects on dialysis were significantly fewer in the coenzyme Q10 group (36.2%) than in the placebo group (90.0%). There was a significant increase in plasma levels of vitamins A, E, C and beta-carotene, whereas thiobarbituric acid reactive substances, diene conjugates and malondialdehyde showed a significant reduction in the coenzyme Q10 group compared with the control group. Q-GelŪ, which is a hydrosoluble coenzyme Q10, was used as the coenzyme Q10 substance in this study.

There is a list of foods to avoid, but what are the best foods to consume to promote kidney health?

Keeping the kidney healthy & working at full capacity isn't about what you eat, it's what you flush out. Ok, you want to eat a healthy diet for full body health, but as far as I know, there aren't any specific foods that make a kidney healthier (except those that help cleanse, such as watermelon seed tea).

There are some kidney cleanse recipes here: http://curezone.com/cleanse/kidney/default.asp
This is what I use: http://www.presentmoment.com/amazing-liver-cleanse-kidney-tea-1-recipe.html?osCsid=d36e1711d5d9749334860934038e014 9

edit: the first link does say that eating melons helps prevent kidney stones
