This statement from the article

As ThinkProgress has explained, the Constitution gives Congress broad authority to regulate interstate commerce and to raise and spend money to benefit the “general welfare.” These two powers easily enable Congress to regulate the national food market and to provide a basic safety net to the poor and the unfortunate, regardless of what Lee may claim.

...would make Tom Woods head explode. :)

he is right of course, and in Mormon Utah he can say this, as Mormons function the way all churches did in the 1800s (taking care of their members) but could Rand say this in Kentucky?

No. I'm sure that Rand agrees with him privately, but he will never say so publicly. I think that Mike Lee will do a much better job of spreading the freedom message then Rand will.

No he won't.

Neither will Rand.

The regime is powerful and has a life of it's own.

So what? It takes at least 40 senators for a filibuster to work.

Mike Lee is almost the Thomas Woods of the US Senate. He just needs to be less interventionist and more sarcastic.

Yeah, when I want to know what the Framers meant, I always go straight to Think Progress.

He's not a 100% non interventionist, but I think he'll be more non interventionist then many here think he will be. He's said before that he wants to go back to having a strong national DEFENSE rather than policing the world. He was just forced to make hawkish statements on Iran to win the GOP primary. He also originally suggested withdrawing from Afghanistan before he got blasted by Bennet for it. The Campaign for Liberty questionairre that he filled out showed that he supports declaring war and withdrawing from the UN.

I agree. It's a well known fact that the founders intended a socialist country, not a capitalist country.:D

Care to expand?

As was said earlier, Mike Lee comes from perhaps the most conservative state in the nation. He can say stuff like this and not have to worry about getting re-elected. Rand represents a state that is traditionally socially conservative and economically liberal. Kentucky is not a libertarian state at all. So Rand has to be very careful about what he says. I think that Rand is going to mostly focus on spending cuts and reducing the size of government, but I don't think that you're going to see him make all of these intellectual arguments regarding things like federal minimum wage laws, food safety laws, child labor laws, etc. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of Rand, but Rand is focused more on the practical aspects of getting legislation passed.
