I think the segment in question starts @ ~8:45. I'll summarize when I'm through with it...

This is exactly my point about Stewart and the people that think he is somehow on our side. He most certainly is not and has proved that over and over again. The only reason he gave Ron a good interview was because it made Republicans look bad.

Camden is a shitty place to live. Talks about different US gov'ts cutting programs. FNC anchor tries shocking audience by claiming MI class size will double from 32 to 62. PA Gov. says people are always going to gamble, so gov't should cash in on it. Stewart compares gambling to murder. Stewart makes joke [satirizing woman complaining about raised tax] that instead of raising taxes, IL gov't should raise money with boxing matches. Then mocks woman by implying she's complaining about paying for something she wants.

The IL clip starts @ ~13:45

Jonathan Stuart Leibowitz clearly doesn't understand that you could tax everybody and every company at 100% of their income and this country would still be in deficit. You could cut the entire federal budget except Medicare and Medicaid and it would also still be in deficit. It's not a revenue problem, it's a spending problem. Too many promises. Let's start by taxing Jonathan Stuart Leibowitz and his brother Larry Leibowitz, the chief operating officer at the New York Stock Exchange, THEIR entire income and all their property by 100%.

Stewart's argument is flawed -- but he is a comedian trying to get laughs, not votes, so some leniency should be permitted. His argument is that since voters want welfare programs, they should not complain when they receive the bill. I doubt this is worth much huffing/puffing over.

CTIGER2, I love it. Never lose your fire. So many people on this forum are very easily duped into believing Colbert and LEIBOWITZ are somehow virtuous.

I'm glad you see past their pathetic comedic attempts. These comedians are evil statists to the core trying to brainwash people into loving the government.

Keep your brain sharp and your body fit.

Stewart is an obvious cheerleader for big government, I don't agree with him at all on that, but still find him funny at times.

I guess when you say "keep your brain sharp" you mean keep your paranoia level at 10??

it's not paranoia. most comedians use their power to sway people to their views, even if they don't do it purposefully, because it's what they believe. and stewart believes in big government.

It is no secret that Jon Stewart masquerades as some neutral comedian and someone who "attacks" while street while his own family is complicit with many of the crimes going on today.

He promotes an expanding government and works actively to convert his audience (mainly youth) to socialism.

I wish Jon Stewart would debate us in economics, I would have a blast with that.

If only the FED monetized more, if only the welfare state was bigger, if only we had higher taxes, if only we had more regulations our economy would really be cranking. Or so jon stew would think.

Dear Ben and other JLS fans,

Why did JLS dig in on Bush so much but not so on Obama? He and Colbert mock gold, they make fun of the insidious beast aka inflation and they con the masses into thinking the government creates prosperity.

He is no friend of ours and must be disregarded entirely.

The problem many times is that the left does not differentiate us between those people, who we share little in common with when it comes to what government should do.

Yep, its a return to sanity alright. If a being a court jester for big government and more taxes is a return to sanity, then I must be insane.

I don't generally watch his show. But i happened to stop on it temporarlily last night. And I coulda sworn he was vigorously defending the tea party and mocking those that have tried to politicize the AZ shooting .

So maybe the question should be why are we not allowing people to do this as a point of use tax? For instance, people can have social security but they pay for the privilege (not be mandated into it), people can have small classrooms but only those using the service are responsible (instead of having those childless participate or double dipping as homeschoolers/private schoolers are taxed while funding their child(rens) educational needs). These issues would be less aggravating if the argument ceased to be a matter of roping everyone in to finance the wishes of the minority while allowing for those interested in using such services to participate in them.

moostraks, you raise an interesting point.

here's why: the government needs the productive to be a part of the system, to pay for the indolent. if it were a point of use tax the shrewd and productive would say no thank you and opt out, but this would put the program in serious financial jeopardy.

It is disgusting that young people have to pay so much into SS and old people get way more out of it than they ever put in.

the ponzi is nearing the end game. SS is cash flow negative, medicare/medicaid costs are exploding. This can't last much longer.

Jon Stewart doesn't live in Illinois, does he?

No. He was born in New York. It is easy, and fun, to raise taxes on the other guy.
