SAN DIEGO -- A search warrant obtained by 10News revealed the large arsenal of weapons found at the home of an El Cajon man accused of making a threatening phone call to a local high school.David Schreiner was arrested Friday after police said a threatening phone call that led to a campus security alert at Helix High School in La Mesa was traced back to his home. Detectives, armed with a search warrant, found and collected dozens of guns and other weapons.According to the warrant, 40 rifles, pistols, shotguns and muskets were discovered in the home. While some of the weapons were considered historical items, others were of the late-model variety, the warrant said. http://ad.doubleclick.net/ad/ibs.sand.news/local;kw=news+square+26550562;ad=true;pgtype=detai l;tile=7;sz=300x250;ord=123456789? Schreiner also had six knives, a dagger, a tomahawk, a hatchet, a machete, a leather sap and a camouflage ballistic vest in his possession, according to the warrant.Schreiner was taken into protective custody and sent to San Diego County Mental Health Services for evaluation.A Gulf War veteran, Schreiner's brother told 10News that the former tank commander has been battling demons. Neighbors said Schreiner's been getting extremely paranoid.Psychologist Michael Mantell noted, "There is some concern about his behavior … being bizarre, talking to himself, hiding behind bushes. This would indicate that things are beginning to degenerate a bit."A police officer said Schreiner pointed to a tree, telling him someone was there pointing a scoped rifle at him.Mantell applauded how police and mental health officials handled the arrest."My guess is this was a ticking time bomb ready to go off and we were lucky people stepped in … which is to ensure that he does not have access to his weapons until we are convinced that he is safe and we are safe," Mantell said.Mantell also spoke of the lengthy healing process for post-traumatic stress disorder, and said, "He's been dealing with this for 20 years. I don't expect any medicine to make it go away like that."
