Finally, an end to a truly repulsive political career.

Joe Lieberman will not seek Senate re-election in 2012

Democratic vice-presidential candidate has had long career, having been Al Gore's running mate in 2000 election

Former Democratic vice-presidential candidate Joe Lieberman, one of the most familiar faces on the American political scene, has announced he will not seek re-election to the Senate in 2012. The move puts paid to a long and varied political career that has spanned four terms in the upper house of Congress

Does that mean though he leaves open a presidential run?

Btw, he looks like Julian Assange's crazy uncle in that pic.

This is not the best news, I would have preferred to see him suffer a humiliating defeat in 2012.

I bet he retired for the same reason Dodd did

I wonder whom they have in mind for the position? http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?275992-Lieberman-Expected-Not-to-Run-in-2012-Reports

Reuters was slow on the uptake: Leiberman didn't get to report his own news before others did.

Getting rid of him rates two threads .

I don't dispute this^^ at all!

But remember what Dodd did right after he said he wouldn't run again.... The Fed empowerment act.

Good riddance to neocon rubbish. Between the retirements of Lieberman and Kay Bailout, the Senate is looking just a wee bit hopeful now.

McMillions offer him 50mil for his seat?

Lieberman 2012?

Sumthings up, just don't see why he would leave a position of power for no reason.

I read an article that's whole premise was that he couldn't win in 2012, which doesn't seem believable. So yeah, something's up--some cushy lobbyist job where he can do more damage...maybe he has something remarkably more evil and unpopular to push...dunno.

The War party is protecting the CT seat from a successful Schiff run in 2012. Lieberman could be vurnerable to Schiff, so the establishment is protecting itself on both sides by getting him out of there, and and probably running McMahon again on the GOP side.

Lieberman out means that any chance of a Schiff win just went down the toilet. Say hello to Senator Chris Murphy!

Lieberman was a vile creature who seemed to hold the worst beliefs of both parties- a big government liberal and a warmonger at the same time.

Good riddance!

Apparently Rep. Joe Courtney (who unseated Rob Simmons from Congress) is also considering running. Looks like there is going to be a big fight in the Democratic primary.
