What year did all this take place?

OK, it works now. Sucks, but I had heard it happened. I didn't know it was done with the 'don't let a crises go to waste' mentality, though.

Just over 10 years ago in the UK and Australia. Of course the numbers of murders has not decreased, and the number of armed robberies increases year on year.

With steak knives.

Which is really pathetic.

You are obviously not aware of the Knives Act of 1997

Fortunately for the U.S., a disarmament of the American people is still a tough nut to crack. The government would have done so long ago if it knew it could get away with it. If the government finally manages to do such, exepct the police state to go into full swing.

Yes I do. I actually have that book, somewhere, probably lost in a box in the basement since our last move.

IIRC, the murder rate is actually creeping upward slightly. Whether the change represents a statistically significant trend I do not recall. What does, however, is the violent crime rate, which is increasing by leaps. This in both GB and Oz.

Here is a question for all of you, just to stir the pot: While the Brits are a miserable lot by nature (who would not be living in a water logged place like that?), the Australians appear to live rather happy lives and on the whole appear not to much care about whether they can have guns. Apparent prosperity, happy life style, low if rising crime... what is the problem here? ;)

Got it. Didn't say you couldn't make it really tough on them... just saying so not underestimate the abilities and determination of an enemy. It's the worst strategic mistake one can make, IMO. It can lead to careless mistakes, and where vicious people like these are in the mix, mistakes can cost one a lot.

The Australians may eventually regret it too. It is my guess that the Argentineans would rather be armed with guns rather than rocks, skateboards, and pots & pans when the IMF, Citibank, et al. stopped letting them get their money out of the bank.
