"My Night At The Orlando Fox News Presidential Debate
Myself | 10-22-2007 | my favorite headache

Posted on 10/21/2007 11:38:01 PM PDT by My Favorite Headache

I am going to post just a small review of my night with 23 Republicans at the Fox News Orlando Republican Presidential Debate.

Luntz was angry early on before camera's went live when he polled the group to make sure everyone there was undecided. A 21 yr old guy raised his hand and said he was supporting Ron Paul. Luntz absolutely lost it on this kid and said "Why in the hell did you not put that on your questionaire that was e-mailed to you? Why does it not shock me that a Ron Paul supporter would pull this kind of crap?"

"If someone else shows up you are being replaced and out of here...this room is for undecided."

I was originally placed in the second row towards the end of the row next to a man named Fred Hawkins Jr. who is running for Osceola County Commissioner. Luntz asked us a bunch of questions with a camera crew and producers in tow behind him and I was the first to answer. I was the first person to use the word "socialism" and it spread like wild fire.

I said the concept of America voting a socialist like Hillary Clinton as President should be motivation enough for Republicans to get their act together. I reminded Luntz of the Hillary quote saying "This is the same woman who is quoted by the San Francisco Chronicle saying "We will have to take things away for the common good." Luntz had this smirk on his face and he knew I handed him gold.

After 3 segments it was time to go live. By the time you saw what you did at home we had already gone through 3 rounds of questions and I was lighting up the joint with what I call the biggest crisis this campaign.

What do any of these men who are running for President plan on doing to combat the extreme hatred of anyone who is a Republican by the mainstream media and how bad the liberal blogs, Soros, and just about everyone who has some sort of journalistic power slimes Republicans on a daily basis. Who is going to have the spine to stand up to it and how do they plan on doing it when the Bush Administration has been knocked out time and time again with no fight.

WHO IS GOING TO PREVENT THE PERCEPTION THAT REPUBLICANS ARE NOT WAR MONGERING NAZI'S WHO ARE OUT FOR OIL COMPANIES AND THE RICH?

Luntz definitely told us through his polling and research that as of today Hillary Clinton will win in a landslide. He was putting all of his money on her. I said you are going to go broke. He said Republicans are too disorganized and the focus group proved that.

I said not it does not. I said if you want to see motivation and organization? Put Hillary Clinton against any Republican and you will see Republicans vote like you have never seen before, the alternative is too grave. Whether we can stand it or not Republicans will do everything in their power to elect anyone else but Clinton.

You saw my exchange later on saying we have long memories and do not want to live through that hell again.

The Ron Paul comment I made was simple and sweet and every single person except the Ron Paul supporter all said "perfect" with regards to that remark.

Luntz walks over and says "you are good...you are going down to the front row...keep talking."

We taped about 70 mins worth of discussion. More clips will be aired at 6:20 AM on Fox and Friends First and then 8:20 AM on Fox and Friends. Then more clips from the debate will be aired on tomorrow's Hannity and Colmes as well from 9-10.

I am sure this is when you will see how hardcore it got in there.

I called out the room at the end of it all..when I saw how many people put their hands up that Rudy was the only one who could beat Hillary I said "I am really saddened to see how many people think he is their answer. That is very telling that the fire that was there earlier tonight for all of us agreeing that we want a true Conservative is gone already and that makes me sick as a true Conservative."

To me the top winners tonight were Romney, Huckabee, Thompson, and blech...I hate to say this but Rudy. His night was not that bad but he certainly is not my top choice for President.

I called for a thining of the herd. Paul, Tancredo, and Hunter need to go. They virtually played zero in the room. It was sad because I really like Tom and Duncan and said that if a Republican wins the White House in 2008 they should all be given cabinet posts ASAP.

Except Paul...which who by the end of the night lost his one supporter...the 21 yr old guy who didn't raise his hand when asked if anyone supported him.

Finally...Luntz. A nice guy but can be insulting. When he compared a moderate conservative to a major serious conservative he wanted a show of hands...then he added "When I say major serious conservative I mean you can hear the German Nazi marching bands and get excited", I then said to him "There it is..exactly what I was talking about." Luntz said "Relax I was only joking." I said "I know you were and it is that kind of talk that I am absolutely disgusted by and sick of...sick of it Frank...enough is enough with the nazi conservative comparisons people have got to speak up for conservatives...true conservatives."

That in a short capsule is it. Met some really nice people and we had a discussion at the end of everything and went our own ways.

I thank Luntz for letting me say whatever I wanted to on camera and speak up for Conservatives and letting me call Ron Paul out on global television."

GOP rivals argue who's most conservative

By LIBBY QUAID, Associated Press Writer
1 hour, 12 minutes ago

Republican front-runners Rudy Giuliani and Mitt Romney defended their conservative credentials in the face of pointed attacks from campaign rivals Sunday night in the most aggressive debate to date of the race for the White House.

"You've just spent the last year trying to fool people about your record. I don't want you to start fooling them about mine," Arizona Sen. John McCain bluntly told Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts.

Former Sen. Fred Thompson made Giuliani his target, saying the former New York mayor supported federal funding for abortion, gun control and havens for illegal immigrants.

"He sides with Hillary Clinton on each of those issues," added Thompson, referring to the New York Democrat who leads in the polls for her party's presidential nomination.

The clashes in the early moments of a 90-minute debate prompted former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee to say he wanted no part of a "demolition derby" with others of his own party. "What I'm interested in is fighting for the American people."

Whatever their disagreements among one another, the eight rivals agreed on one issue. They took turns criticizing Clinton, the Democratic front-runner.

Asked whether she was fit to be commander in chief, Romney replied, "I'd vote no."

Giuliani said he agreed with one thing the former first lady said recently. "I have a million ideas. America cannot afford them all," he quoted her as saying as laughter filled the debate hall. "I'm not making it up."

McCain said Clinton had recently tried to spend $1 million on a Woodstock Museum, commemorating perhaps the most famous counterculture event of the 1960s.

"Now my friends I wasn't there. I'm sure it was a cultural and pharmaceutical event," he said.

"I was tied up at the time," he deadpanned, and the audience rose to applaud the reference to the five and a half years McCain spent as a prisoner of war during Vietnam.

The debate was the first since Sen. Sam Brownback of Kansas dropped out of the race, winnowing the field. The remaining rivals stood on a stage at a resort 10 miles from Walt Disney World, fielding questions at an event broadcast by Fox News Channel.

The leadoff Iowa caucuses are scheduled for Jan. 3, 2008, for Republicans. In their most recent debate, Oct. 9, Giuliani and Romney swapped charges with each other, vying for primacy in the race.

This time they largely ignored each other. Instead, Giuliani's lead in the nation polls, as well as Romney's perceived strength in early voting states, made them obvious targets for McCain and Thompson.

The first question went to Giuliani, asked whether he was more conservative than Thompson. "I can't comment on Fred," the former mayor said.

He then added that he had brought down crime, cleaned up Times Square, cut taxes and eliminated the city's deficits. "I think that was a pretty darned good conservative record," he said.

Giuliani took a more conservative position on gay marriage than he has thus far, saying he would support a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage if states begin to legalize it.

Giuliani lived with an openly gay couple after separating from his second wife, Donna Hanover, and one member of the couple said at the time that Giuliani promised to marry them if gay marriage was ever legalized.

Attacked by the former Tennessee senator moments later, Giuliani fired back at his antagonist. "Fred has problems, too," he said. He said Thompson was the "single biggest obstacle" in the Senate to legislation limiting the ability of individuals filing lawsuits to recover unlimited damages.

"He stood with the Democrats over and over again" on the issue, Giuliani added.

Thompson said he believed states should decide whether to limit lawsuits in their own states.

Republicans in Congress tried for years to pass legislation that would cap damages in lawsuits, but never succeeded before losing their majority to Democrats in 2006.

Romney was asked about McCain's earlier claims that he had shifted positions on a number of issues to appeal to conservative Republicans.

The former Massachusetts governor responded that he was proud of his record, particularly since the state had an overwhelmingly Democratic Legislature. "I fought to make sure we kept our taxes down. I fought for pro-growth strategies. I cut taxes," he said.

Moments later, though, McCain personally turned on Romney.

"Governor Romney, you've been spending the last year trying to fool people about your record. I don't want you to start fooling them about mine," he said.

Saying he would run on his record as a conservative, McCain added, "I don't think you can fool the American people. I think the first thing you'd need is their respect."Copyright © 2007 Yahoo! Inc. All rights reserved.

I noticed this comment over on Freepers. In part, he is right. The one time that Dr. Paul talked about us needing to protect our own borders in another debate, he received thunderous applause.

To: My Favorite Headache

If Paul altered his message to say, in effect, “Muslims are not worth our time and blood; we should defend our borders,” he would be unstoppable. Hannity seemed to have apoplexy over the 34% win by Paul. I liked Huckabee a lot tonight too; he struck me, particularly in the interview afterwards, as being his own man.

We have recourse, but it is going to take all of us getting really busy. We CAN combat this, if we only would. We have the material to do it, but we have to get it into the hands of every American of voting age.

The question is, will we do it? It's put up or shut up time. :)

If luntz lost his cool like that, then they know they are in deep shit. Something is uneasy at fox... they are trying to keep the lid on the secret, but people are seeing it in the real world, and destroying the "perception is reality" game that neocons used to love to say all the time.

The scary thing is, there is a huge gang of thugs in the executive branch right now. They have been secretly torturing detainees, even though told by their own justice dept official not too. They have been commiting all sorts of crimes, thinking they would get away with it... I dont think they expected to have a populace as informed as it is today.

I mean, 15 years ago, nobody would even know who Luntz is... but hundreds of thousands know who he is... an asshole.

Frank Luntz is just angry b/c we're waking everyone up to how friggin' clueless he is. His career is running down and his clients are loosing faith!

Why? Because our noise machine is louder than theirs, has more credibility, and our non-paid, non-professional linguists and writers leave their goons hopelessly lugubrious (when they're feeling good).

I just e-mailed Frank Luntz. Here is my text:

Mr. Luntz,

Allow me to introduce myself. I am a 36-year-old, married, mother of two who works for a private non-profit agency that advocates for abused and neglected children. My religious affiliation is Christian. I hold a Bachelor's degree in speech and mass communication. I voted for Bush in 2000 and 2004. I originally supported the invasion of Iraq. I am now a staunch supporter of Dr. Ron Paul, who I believe is the only true Republican on the ballot. I support Dr. Paul's campaign with both my time and my money. I am one of many who texted my vote for Dr. Paul as the winner of last night's debate. I would be curious to know what exactly you were implying when you questioned the results of the texting poll. I would respectfully submit that your focus group is the one that is not a valid sample. Put 23 people in a room together, and you can influence them to say whatever you wish. One man calls Hillary a socialist and Ron Paul insane, you compliment him, and the rest fall in line. How do I know this? Because the man who made these two statements has already blogged about it proudly at http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1914464/posts. He doesn't seem to realize that his account exposes the fallacy of your findings last night. Have a great day!

Look at the tactics Luntz was using. He wasn't an unbiased pollster at all. Also, didn't he make a big point about how the entire room was randomly undecided when they purposely only chose undecideds?
