Osler said he instead suspects that Loughner was motivated by a documentary called, "Zeitgeist: The Movie," which slams currency-based economics.

"I really think that this 'Zeitgeist' documentary had a profound impact upon Jared Loughner's mindset and how he viewed the world that he lives in," he said.

Osler said Loughner began to spiral downward after a high school girlfriend broke up with him. Osler also said Loughner then began abusing alcohol and drugs, including salvia, a legal hallucinogen.

"He would say he was using it," Osler told ABC. "And he would talk about it and say what it would do to him."

Eventually, Loughner's increasingly bizarre behavior drove Osler away two years ago.

"I forgot about Jared, I stopping thinking about this kid because thinking about him was something I didn't want to do."

I was thinking that as well, notice how they mentioned that it was still 'legal' at the very end of the sentence. *hint* make this illegal now *hint*

Is it more sad or funny when they ignore the root causes of these problems and use the opportunity to make the symptoms illegal?

"Zeitgeist: Moving Forward" is going in wide release in 3 days. It will be the biggest independent film release of all time, showing in over 300 locations worldwide.

It is interesting that all of these "Friends" are coming out of the woodwork.
Which ones were talking him out of this? Going along to keep him out of trouble?

sounds like half assed acquaintance looking for a little fame and their name in the paper. Or completely manufactured bullshit.

I'm looking forward to it but have heard absolutely no "buzz" about it anywhere. Only reason I knew it was coming is b/c I occasionally check their website. The movies have their flaws but are very interesting and well produced.

You guys might condemn me for saying this but I think this news or rumor might actually be good. Not everything is bad about Zeitgeist 1 and I wish more people see it and at least start thinking about this stuff.

You don't have to be a health professional to realize that Jared Loughner is suffering from some severe type of mental illness. The outbursts, shaking, talking to himself, inability to communicate... I went to school with a kid like that who ended up hanging himself in a local park. Was Loughner ever diagnosed? Was he on meds? Notice how they are being so silent on the issue...They are trying desperately to connect his actions to "heated political rhetoric" and nothing like a little mental illness is going to get in their way.

Ya my roommate is the Zeitgeist coordinator in my town.. he helped fund and secure a large screening location (will be free, asking for donations)

There is another couple screenings within a couple hours of here over the next week or so.

So essentially, instead of advertising on the web, they are advertising in the local communities where the showings are. In fact, we have both major publications in town sponsoring the event.

I've been meaning to post a thread on it for a while now, I suppose I'll have to do that soon here.. I really like the first film and I like a lot of the ideas related to technology and stuff in the second one. I think it would be great if currency naturally became extinct through free market mechanisms, I think it's possible with all the automation and technology that is available once we become free from the system. Unfortunately the people in the Zeitgeist movement want some crazy mass consciousness change which will catapult them to that point, everybody joining the cause voluntarily (my roommate is adement that no force will need to be used to abolish currencies and move forward with the Venus Project once everybody is educated, on a voluntary basis..)

I don't think they realize that what they are trying to achieve is something we will have to work towards, and can only happen in a free society.. if we break down the financial system as it is now, people will still voluntarily use free market currencies, and I'm not going to discourage that, having a medium of exchange is extremely efficient for markets to function properly.

I'm still excited to see the third film, they always contain a lot of good info.

4 days after the incident, we've moved from "political vitriol" to drugs and documentaries. What's next, violent video games?

I believe acquaintance and not friends to be correct . Then , I think about what kind of tales the authorities might be able to get out of acquaintances of you / I / others on this board etc.

Loughner was fucking crazy. He wasn't "inspired" by anything. What he did was wrong and evil and there is no society that can prevent incidents like this.

Well he was also a communist, Zeitgeist 2 promotes technocommunism.

Let's see. There are much better films on 9/11 truth (9/11 Press For Truth comes immediately to mind) and on the federal reserve (America from Freedom to Fascism comes to mind) and yet the one tied to technocommunism gets the big push. Where is InterestedParticipant when you need him? Even this story gets ZG free publicity. I remember when YouTube was knocking down LooseChange's numbers (not my fav 9/11 documentary either) but they never messed with ZG.

I used to think negatively of the Zeitgeist community after a particularly bad debate with one of them who trashed the idea of free markets and enterprise. But, if they are willing to be 100% nonviolent, then that is awesome.

He was influenced by a LOT of things, mostly his schizophrenic mind itself.

Ban books, music, , movies, the internet, guns, knives, cars, and we'd all be safer. /sarcasm

Obviously he was motivated by the knowledge that Lockheed-Martin builds missiles. Michael Moore told me so.

I too was suspicious of the silence until I heard some doc on CNN (I think it was there) say how loughner was almost certainly a schizophrenic. Then they even went into detail about the percent of schizophrenics that are violent (was very small).

He was influenced by a LOT of things,

from what I am seeing, he was a fairly normal kid till he was arrested with Marijuana and subjected to the Mental Health Professionals. (diversion program)
The Sheriff even said he was being handled by Mental Health Professionals.

There is your "influence".

The first one is, if you follow through on your research and take it to the logical conclusion. The maker of the movie didn't take his research to the logical conclusion, he went way off base in the second one.

It was for me now that I think about it. If I hadn't watched that, I wouldn't have looked for videos on the fed on youtube and I wouldn't have stumbled upon Ron and I wouldn't have learned about mises.org and I would still be a blind zombie thinking everything is perfectly fine with the world.

The movie might not have every fact presented 100% right but it has a very strong shock effect which hopefully motivates viewers to further research and think about those topics and that is a big big positive thing.

It was in an article that someone had posted in another thread, concerning alleged threats.

What is even more interesting is that the police records of (supposedly) all contacts with him or his family were just released.
