When Ron Paul runs in 2012, I think we need to more effectively utilize social media for the campaign. We did an excellent job the last time, but I think stepping up our efforts could really improve our chance of success.

I think it is important to start building a network of liberty minded people now on the sites you use like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc. Friend or add other liberty minded people by explaining that you are trying to build your network of like-minded liberty lovers. I have been doing this on Facebook since 2007 and now have over 6,000 people that I can immediately inform about money bombs, post videos or articles for, invite to events, etc. (and who knows how many of these people will tell others creating a massive snowball effect). If people hear about something like a money bomb once or twice, they may not remember or decide to participate. If they see something about it from 10 people, they are extremely more likely to chip in and spread the word.

If you do not want to do this with your personal account, you can create an account specifically for this purpose. With Facebook, there is a limit to how many people you can friend a day. Because of this, it is a somewhat slow process to build a network is why we need to start now.

I have seen a good number of people doing this type of thing, but we need more. I think we could see much greater success if we are all very well connected to each other.

Great idea, but don't forget Youtube. Remember, YouTube is the second largest search engine after Google. More of us need to participate in uploading videos and getting followers.

Great point. Edited to include that. Any sites like that with the same type of model can really help in spreading the word.

This video gives very important statistics and trends about Ron Paul in 2008 using Google:

There are some who do not like social media such as Facebook because of the inherent privacy concerns involved in most social media.

Some people don't like telephones or cars either.

The MSM is the single greatest enemy we have. Although I wish this wasn't the case and I hope I'm wrong I nevertheless think that if Ron makes another attempt, and I hope he does, there's no way in hell he can win with the great wall of MSM standing between him and the people.

I mean how are we suppose to beat this:

With a cleverly designed campaign based on honesty in government rather than deception along with Ron Paul supporters going to our local media affiliates in each of our cities with respect ... letting them know their continued support of distortion in politics is unacceptable??

So in other words you want to appeal to voters with reason?

along with Ron Paul supporters going to our local media affiliates in each of our cities with respect ... letting them know their continued support of distortion in politics is unacceptable??

You really think they care what we think about what they do? It's a business and they only care about money.

And Matt direct mail vs TV+radio has no real chance.

I'm not trying to be pessimistic but I do want to be realistic which you two are not. When are you going to learn that we human beings are vehicles driven by emotions and that reason has little to do with the way people vote?

The way to favorable media coverage is with money. Tons and tons of money. They must be bought, just as they have been forever.
You affect their bottom line, and they will say whatever you want them to, as often as you want them to. Sorry, this is the reality.

Except that they are owned by companies owned by our worst enemies.

Social networking is going to be absolutely essential. Personally, I've signed up at a few new popular forums recently just to get ready for the coming announcement. Reddit calls themselves the "voice of the internet" and redstate since we'll be slugging it out in primaries first.

Facebook has also been far more deeply imbedded into our culture. The demographics of facebook users have expanded greatly and should help us reach more people with ron paul videos that would have missed them before. I expect we'll have even more incredible youtube videos to share and impress with on this go around.

Yes, as some of you have said, we are likely not going to get the MSM behind us. That is why it is on us to get the word out and I think social media is one of the best ways to do that. We can each individually reach thousands of people instantly and completely free. Creating a vast network of liberty minded people would dramatically improve our odds in 2012.

Bump. Reminder to start friending as many people as possible now to start expanding your networks. This will be incredibly important if Ron Paul runs. I was able to invite about 6,500 people to the Money Bomb on Facebook because I've been building my networks on there for years.

With the Ron Paul 2012 campaign now officially beginning it is important to start NOW if you haven't yet in expanding your liberty network on these sites. This is critical to spreading information about the campaign.

If you don't want to use your personal account throughout the campaign, start a new one with the purpose of spreading the most important RP 2012 news e.g. money bombs, events, debates, etc.

What will it take to get you people to think he may actually have a chance? Maybe if we get him close enough, you'll jump on the bandwagon. Here's an idea: Put your full work and support behind Paul and stop questioning his ability. What's more important, being realistic or changing the inevitable and catastrophic direction of government? If you want to do something about this, then you're going to have to put your full work and support into making it happen. Being realistic doesn't help anything. It just serves to discourage and defeat. I'm not saying live in dreamland, either. I'm saying you have to go into it with a strategy and adapt to the circumstances. Fight for all you're worth and don't give in.
