Corporations and individuals have a vested interest in making sure their servers are secure.

If the government takes over for that liability, that's when the net starts sucking.

The kind of revolution taking place in Europe is historically the most unsuccessful, and is exactly what the government wants us to do. Do the revolution that way, and it becomes an excuse for them to call in Interpol, internet shut down and more. They have they arms resources we don't.

The most successful revolutions have come from people like Gandhi, Martin Luther King and Jesus. Governments do not know how to fight that.

As for ciber wars: The government will try shutting down free speech and business... don't help them do that. The computer savy young are smart enough to counter anything the government tries to do along these lines by keeping communication and commerce open and free.

One of the most successful things Gandhi did was to encourage Indians to mine their own salt again. The British declared this an illegal act because allowing them to mine their own salt (and sell it) as they traditionally had (sort of like our internet activity now) meant they were uncontrollable financially.

As for college and education: return to home education, and one room school houses run by the communities.

Abolishing the government-imposed monopolies in cable and telecomm would be the best step in the right direction I can think of. If the market were allowed to produce alternatives, it would be harder for the government to shut the market down.

You guys got it. There are many internet business owners who are members of this forum, and developing alternatives to keep that and this forum free and open is the way to go...not sabotaging it along with the government.
