Oh FFS... Indeed, so it begins. Nobody ever wants to hold the actual perpetrators responsible for their actions these days. The same is true of school shootings and any act of public violence. Well, may as well sit back and see how this all unfolds.

Considering that he was a mentally ill leftist/communist, how does he figure that one?

Correlation=/=Causation.

I bet he drank milk too.

Does that mean all people who drink milk, or even those who run the "Got Milk" campaign are just as responsible?

The truth has nothing to do with anything. All that matters is perception.

Yeaw I hope this guy goes down in the next election. He is flat out using this sad event to attack his political opponents. Though the news is talking about strong divisions in the country starting this they are doing everything in their power to inflame the divisions by over politicizing it.

The mentally ill part seems pretty self evident.

Is the leftist/communist part confirmed by anything substantive?

And with the angry political climate etc..
potsmoker...
non-religous...

the profiling begins...

The suspected shooter, Jared Loughner, complained about the government in online diatribes that also spoke in scattered ways of currency, terrorism and "mind control." But what might have driven him to violence has not been established.

"We don't yet know what provoked this unspeakable act," President Barack Obama said from the White House. "We are going to get to the bottom of this."

My head is filling with the labels and profiling that will be set in motion.

He cited The Communist Manifesto as one of his preferred books.

I dont think he is really a lefty/socialist, because he cites an Ayn Rand book as preferred as well. He seems incoherent or confused politically (or more intelligent than the rest of us, who knows).

EDIT: Also it seems the guy wrote at DailyKos, but DailyKos has pulled down his posts since the shots. @caitieparker @johnedelstein sorry to barge in, how could he be a libertarian while favoring books like communist manifesto and mein kampf?

@caitieparker I can see that from the books he read, but "libertarian" is extremely conservative, not liberal. Not trying to cause a ruckus.

@caitieparker @FriendThatCooks yeah he favors the communist manifesto and hitler's writings. still sounds like a leftist to me.

@FriendThatCooks 3 years ago when I saw him last he was more leftist. Now I don't know.

She went to HS with him as well as a bit of college, and was part of his circle. Also, she was in a band with him.

The sheriff needs to resign for misusing his position to wrongfully slander a group of people for having differing political opinions than his own. He is using the crime, for which he is a part of in the investigation, as a political weapon. Shameful.

What?!

He said the gunman was a subject of, “some police interest in the recent past,” and he has made death threats in the past, but not toward Giffords. There was no reason to worry about the Giffords event in advance, he said. The attack started at 10:10 a.m. amid a crowd of about two dozen people.

Hey, look who Dupnik is buddys with:

(3/20/09)
PHOENIX, AZ—FBI Special Agent in Charge Nathan T. Gray, Phoenix Division, announced today that Sheriff Clarence W. Dupnik, Pima County Sheriff’s Department received the Director’s Community Leadership Award for 2008. Sheriff Dupnik received his award today from FBI Director Robert Mueller during a ceremony in Washington D.C. The award is given annually to one recipient representing each of the 56 Field Offices in the FBI.

Sheriff Dupnik has been a strong ally and ardent supporter of the FBI. He has committed resources to FBI task forces, including the Tucson Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF) and the Southern Border Initiative. He continually promotes the FBI National Academy (FBINA) among his command staff, resulting in eleven FBINA graduates from the Pima County Sheriff’s Department during his tenure. Most recently, Sheriff Dupnik partnered with the FBI in a community outreach program entitled, “Terrorism Intervention Prevention Solutions” which educates business and community groups regarding potential threats and suspicious behaviors which may be indicative of terrorist activity.

A reporter should ask him when the Sheriff's department is going gun free.

Don't fret, sheriff. As long as you don't tick off your constitutents any further with even more nonsensical rhetoric, you'll likely survive your tour of duty as sheriff... ;) The people are ticked off precisely BECAUSE of unconstitutional encroachment into their personal lives and further restricting their freedom will only tick them off even more. Get the picture, sheriff? ;)
